Steve ran for the bridge, the attack on the helicarrier was now in full blast. Gunshots, screams and cries could be heard from all directions and Steve knew that he could die any second. A grenade, gun, even a man's strength could kill him at any moment. He stopped as everything suddenly went deadly quiet. He looked around. Something wasn't right at all. He felt his muscles go tense and rigid as his eyes darted around.

"Cap?" He heard a voice whisper. He looked around rapidly for the owner of the voice until he saw Natasha Romanoff crouching on a ledge above him.

"Natasha?" he asked. Natasha jumped down from her position and landed perfectly on her feet.

"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" Natasha asked, taking his hand.

"I'm fine, I promise. What about you?" he asked.

"Never better," she panted. A large crack and loud footprints interrupted them. They both exchanged a glance before running as fast, and as quietly, as they could away from the footprints.

They continued to run, the footsteps always right behind them. They looked back multiple times but they never saw anything, just empty halls and echoing footsteps which seemed to belong to a ghost.

They stopped running as they reached a room and listened. The footsteps had gone. They smiled at each other. Then a clunk at their feet made them look down.

Sitting at their feet was a grenade

The door slammed shut.

The door made a loud clunk.

Natasha cursed loudly but Steve had already dived on top of it.

"Run! Get away!" Steve shouted, curling up over it.

"No! I wont leave without you!" Natasha shouted back.

"Get back!" Steve ordered, closing his eyes and preparing. Natasha felt her heart crying out and she could hardly breath. She felt dizzy and confused as her throat tightened. In the spur of the moment, she threw herself on too of Steve's body and embraced him tightly.

She swore she'd never let go.

A white gas came pouring out of either side of the canister. Steve and Natasha let out repeated violent coughs as they rose to their feet and backed away from it. It wasn't a grenade at all. But Natasha feared it was something much, much more painful.

"You could have got yourself killed!" Steve cried.

"I don't care," Natasha said.

"Are we stuck in here?" Steve asked.

"Oh god, is it poisonous?" she asked.

"I don't know!" Steve panicked, breathing more heavily as he slid down the wall and on to the floor. Natasha joined him and threw her arms around him, nesting her head in his shoulder.

"I love you."

"I love you too."

They were found after the battle, clinging to each other in a vice-like grip, foreheads resting on each other's.

They recovered in hospital and forgot the entire thing.

Only Tony knows what happened.

He is a very good computer hacker.

Either that or CCTV files are very easy to crack into.
