Disclaimer: don't own Supernatural; not making any money off this. I don't own Beaches, either. Title is from the version of the "Now I Lay me Down" prayer that runs "now I lay me down to sleep/ I pray the Lord my soul to keep/ may angels watch me through the night/ and wake me with the morning light."
Summary: E/O Challenge: prompt "time". The world has been saved, and Dean decides to take a nap. This is for everyone else who has that nasty, nagging feeling that Dean is not gonna make it through the final showdown.
And Wake me with the Morning Light
"Nap time," Dean announces, sounding stubborn and childish and I-just-saved-the-world-I'm-allowed-to-be-lazy. "We did good, Cas"-- curling up on Bobby's sofa-- "we did real good."
Cas doesn't reply.
"Sit with me," Dean insists. "You're tired too." Cas sits. Dean feels fingers on his forehead and waits for the angelic anesthetic to put him under, but Cas just strokes his hair.
"Maybe later we could rent Beaches," Dean chuckles weakly. Distantly, he can smell smoke.
"Angels are watching over you, Dean Winchester," Cas whispers gently. "Sleep now."
And it's not until Dean closes his eyes that he realizes he'll never open them again.
