You're On

The roller skating rink was shiny as the lights above gleamed across the surface of the sealed hardwood floor. Pidge tied up her skates and got used to the feeling of being on eight wheel again, It had been ages since her last trip to the roller skating rink since her space odyssey with her friends and it felt nice to do one of her favorite hobbies again outside of electronics and mechanics.

"You ready to skate the day away Lance?" Pidge asked her Boyfriend as he laced up his own skates. "Have you been skating before?"

He gave her a raised eyebrow and a smile, "Have I skated before? I'm like the best skater of my family."

"Then let's have a little contest. You and me, whoever goes around the rink the fastest buys the other one a drink at the snack bar." Pidge declared as they rolled over to the rink entrance. "You down?"

"You're on."

So off they went around the rink at equal speed, each trying to get ahead of the other and every time they made eye contact they gave each other a smile. As soon as they reached the entrance again, Pidge made an attempt to take the win as she leaned forward and tried giving her a boost of energy when she fell over and crashed on her side on the skating rink floor.

"Pidge! Are you OK?" Lance asked with concern as he quickly stopped himself before falling over on top of her.

He helped pick her up from the ground and led her over to a chair on the side where he inspected her arm that she was holding tenderly. "Looks like it's not broken...but you're gonna have a nasty bruise."

"Eh. I've had worse injuries than this. I'll be fine, thanks Lance." Pidge said as she leaned over and kissed him on the cheek.

Lance smiled at her. "You wanna get something to drink? I'll buy. You won after all since you were ahead of me."

"Yeah...before I went and crashed at the finish line."

"You were gonna win regardless. Well, shall we?" Lance asked as he offered his arm to her.

Pidge smiled back. "We shall."

So together they rolled over to the snack bar where they got two sodas and talked about their next competition on the rink.
