It's always about you.
From the day you were born, from the day we met, from the day your lance broke mine, it has always been about you.
Everyone thinks the world of you, you know. They sing your name to the skies, they laud you for your skills. They call you valiant and fearless while I say you're foolish and reckless.
They don't see you the way I do.
Women flock to you. They love you before they even know you, but you can't see it. You have Eirik, and Eirik will never leave your side. Why would she even look at another man when her twin brother is so perfect to her eyes?
She won't even look at me because she has you.
It's hard to admit, you know, that you could be better then I am at everything that matters. It's infuriating to know that you could be the better commander, the better warrior, the better king. It would be so easy, just to give up this rivalry, to be content with what I have, with what I am. But I won't.
They say that rivalry draws out the best in people, that in striving to do better than the other, rivals drive each other to heights they would not achieve on their own. Perhaps it is true. Perhaps that is why I can't give this up, because in some strange and twisted way I need you.
It won't end, you know, this rivalry between us. It won't end until you're beaten, until I win against you. Only then will they see- will she see, that I am just as good as you. Better than you, even.
I will beat you someday. At least I have that on my side. I'll beat you, because I can't stand the thought of losing to you.
