AN: just a few ideas i had about some headcannons i had about steven universe also has some headcannons that i saw in another fanfic that i thought was interesting and plausible it's gonna be four one-shots one for Pearl one for Amethyst one for steven one for Garnet and one for Lapis if i get enough positive feedback i may turn it into an actual story
on with the one-shots

Steven knew that they Gems got scared and anxious no matter how well they hid it from him. He had also come to realize that they each had a vice they clung to help keep them grounded when things got to tough, seeing the three people he idolized succumb to their vices had made them seem more human to him. It let him know that they were human then they believed. That's why he wasn't shocked when Pearl would sneak back into the house late at night when everyone was sleeping reeking of nicotine. She lifted the floor board where she hid her cigarettes and he lighter and placed her vices back in there hiding place before she walked towards Steven's bed and sat down on the edge.
"I know you might hear me since you're asleep but i want you to know that i'm scared." Her voice trembled as she started to softly stroke his hair. "I'm scared that i'm not strong enough to protect you that you'll get because i wasn't strong enough to protect you. That the next Gems that Homeworld sends will be to strong and they'll...they'll." The hand she used to stroke Steven's bushy hair stopped as a strangled sob left Pearl's mouth and her hand trembled. "I couldn't live with myself if something happened to you."
A few more strangled sobs left her mouth before she leaned closer and kissed his forehead. He ignored how her breath faintly smelled like the cancer sticks she just smoked even as his nose wrinkled unconsciously in disgust. "You're my baby and i'm terrified of losing you." She watched him sleep for few minutes before ruffling his hair softly and heading towards her room. The faint glow of her symbol to her room let Steven know she was gone.
He sighed before looking towards the door she just disappeared through. "I'm terrified of losing you guys too." He whimperd softly to himself before he closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep where be could escape from his problems and dream a better reality where the fear of losing one of his loved ones, where there were no bad gems.
His thoughts travelled to the other Gems as he wondered how they coped with their fear and anxiety then to Lapis as he wondered if she was ok. His final thought before finally drifting to sleep, 'I wish i could see how Lapis is doing.'
