The young boy sat at the campfire, entranced by the dancing flames. He was so lost in his thoughts that he didn't notice the tall, slender who came out of the water and sat next to him.
"A copper for your thoughts?" she asked in a wispy voice.
He jumped off the log he was sitting on, startled by her presence.
"Who the hell are you?" he demanded, trying to keep his voice from shaking.
"Just an adventurer who happened to see your fire through the gaps in the tress." She smiled.
"He started at her, suspicious of her answer.
"So, how the hell didn't I hear you with all that armor on?" he asked.
"That's easy, because I didn't want you to hear me." She continued to smile. That's when he noticed she wasn't human.
"What the hell are you?" he asked.
"You mean you can't tell? Your eyes didn't improve at all did they?" she asked.
"Why would they? Eyes get worse with age, not better." He replied.
"Seeing as how the rest of you got better with the transformation, I'd have assumed the eyes would too. And besides, we both know you've stopped aging." her smile widened as the boys eyes got bigger.
"I don't know what you're talking about." He lied.
"Oh please! You can't lie to me! I can smell it all over you. So does it hurt when you change?" She asked as she poked the fire with a nearby stick.
He eyed her for a few more minutes, trying to understand why she was so interested in him.
"I'll answer your questions if you answer mine."
"Deal, ask away." She smiled, still poking the fire.
"What the hell are you? Why are you wearing armor and how did you know about me?"
"I'm a Night Elf, I'm wearing armor because I'm a warrior class know as Death Knights. That means I'm neither dead nor living. I know about you because you smell of werewolf and the trees told me. Ok, my turn." She smiled as she rubbed her hands together and turned to him.
"Just one more question, just where in the hell did you come from?"
"Sorry, that one will have to wait. I get to ask a couple. Does it hurt when you change? How many of you are there, and... let's see, oh, I've got a good one! If you dye your hair on yur head, does it change the color of you wolf hair?"
"No, it doesn't hurt to change. there's about twenty of us with more coming all the time. And I don't know, the length affects it s I only imagine the color would change if i died it." at this point she got up and started circling the fire, watching it.
"My turn again." he said.
"You mean, where did I come from?" she said, he nodded.
"See, now that's a long story, one I sadly don't have enough time to get into. So I'm sorry to say I'm just gonna have to knock you out."
"Wha..." She knocked him over the head with the hilt of her sword.
When the boy woke up he assumed he must have been dreaming everything. there was no sign the Elf woman had ever been there. He rubbed his head and felt the bump.
Stings a little. He thought.
"Well, I better get back to the house.
He quickly changed into his wolf form to run faster. It didn't take him long to get to his destination. He thought it was odd that everyone was waiting for him.
"That's odd, I didn't think I was gone that long."
But as he got closer he started to see the smiles and hear the snickers. He stopped in front of them and looked at the tall man with light brown hair and asked,
"What the hell is so funny?"
The man couldn't contain himself any longer.
"Oh my gawd! you're hair is PINK!"
With out thinking he ran for the house, changing back to human as he jumped onto the porch. Forgetting that he was naked under his fir, he ran straight for the bathroom. His jaw dropped as he looked at his head in the mirror. His hair really was pink. That Elf woman had knocked him out just so she could dye his hair pink.
Off in the distance he could swear he heard her laughing.
