Let's Watch the Sheep Walk By

A Short Tale

Head pounding, skin over-heated, breath lost – Winry looked up at the blue, very blue sky and smiled. In her hand rested a brown bag, full of fruits and delectables, bouncing along as he hiked up another small hill. The clanging of metal from Al's armor scared little animals walking by. She watched him sigh, beckoning the dog over – the only animal brave enough to go near as he walked. She gave a small chuckle, glancing behind the man in metal to the small creatures that followed with curiosity.

Hey, what's that?

Winry looked ahead, following where Ed was pointing his finger. At the bottom of the hill, along the small intersection of ways to part and right before her (their) home, a flock of sheep bounced across the dirt trail. Al 'aww'ed behind them, maybe wanting to go up and pet them. He didn't, knowing they'd run in all directions. Ed scowled; bit down on the pocky he held carefully between metal fingers and readjusted the bag in his hands. Winry smiled at him and it only grew wider as he gave her a confused look.

When they made it to the bottom, Winry pulled him back. He grumbled, having every intention of crashing through the fluffy animals. The two turned their head to the side slightly and saw a man ushering the sheep. Her dog barked, his fur bristling in excitement, shining in the sun. Al caught his attention with a piece of pocky before he could run off. Glancing down for only a second, Winry watched as one of the smaller sheep came up, sniffed and ran off, tugging Ed's own candy from his hands.

Hey!

The boy almost dropped the bag, ready to run and find that one sheep. Winry grabbed his gloved hand, feeling the coldness it held compared to his other. With the way he stopped, she wondered if he tensed up. His right hand didn't help her to see if he was confused. She watched as he glanced at her. She wouldn't be able to tell you what he was thinking because she stared only at his hair, which rested neatly in a pony tail.

He was most likely wondering what she meant by holding his hand. Winry couldn't tell him. Winry couldn't even tell herself. She smiled, rolling her eyes to stare up at the sky again.

Let's watch the sheep walk by.

Hmm… turned out fluffy-ish. And not because of the sheep.
