The moment when you step out of the fortress you didn't know you were hiding in the world becomes a bigger place. Ignorance is bliss, but not a bliss you could ever go back to. You thought you knew everything, when in fact you knew barely anything. Nothing is clear or certain, everything changes for the better of worse. The only thing we can control is our behavior. Contrary to what popular social media posts suggest, there are billions of types of people in existence, not two.
My family seemed like an average everyday family, and in fact we were. Everyday was paradise...
Third Party's POV
Mikan was as happy as the feeling had ever come to her. Squirming in her car seat on their 30 minute drive. Ever since she was one her father had been enrolled in the US army. She didn't know him like other girls knew their fathers. He had been fighting the war in Iraq since a little after 9/11. She was ignorant to this fact, not knowing anything on the subject. Every year or two he'd come back for a month only to leave. The time wasn't there to talk. It was only inevitable. Mikan was struggling to wait to see, listen, and converse with him. Her mother, Yuka, was not blessed with the convenience of stupidity. She would stay up at night crying and praying for her husband to come home only for her tiny little daughter to come and comfort her. Her husband, Izumi Yukihara, had escaped death to many times. His fellow soldiers were dying a few feet away from him. It was a gruesome sight nonetheless. But for Mikan, this was the closest she'd ever feel to paradise for several years.
Hey there lovely Colorful creatures from all over! I thought of this as an idea for a fanfiction, but I am not sure if I am going to follow through with it. If you think I should or have any comments, concerns, or feedback you are very welcome to notify me via reviewing or the pm system here. Thank you for your time! 3
