"Brian I said that we'd go and see Mark and Christina, she's already two days overdue." Esther called through the house to the living room where Brian was making up a baby hamper.
"Yeah, I'm coming, we're going on a walk aren't we?"
"Yeah, so bring your coat and scarf."
"Yeah, I'm ready."
"I've been doing a lot of baby research, I wasn't a hands on dad but I'd like to be a hands on granddad, if Mark will let me." Brian said.
"I'm sure he will, you may not be on the best terms but you've come a long way and your relationships improving, he can see you're trying."
"Spicy foods, long walks and sex are the best ways to induce labour." Brian said changing the subject.
"I'm sure they've tried them all."
"Mum! Help us please!" Mark shouted as Esther's car pulled into his drive.
"What's happened?" Esther asked worriedly jumping out of the car.
"Christina's in labour and the routes to the hospital are closed so the ambulance is stuck."
"Okay, we need blankets, towels, a flannel and cold water." Brian said as he followed them into the house.
"He's right, he's been researching." Esther told a confused Mark.
"Okay, she's through there." Mark told them gesturing towards the lounge as he ran off to get what he'd been told he needed.
"Christina, do you mind if I have a look down there?" Esther asked.
"No, I need this baby out." Christina said before she screamed in pain and Mark came running back in giving Brian everything he'd asked for and then taking Christina's hand.
"Do you feel like you need to push?" Brian asked her and she nodded. "I don't think we can wait for an ambulance then, we're going to have to deliver this baby here and now. Spread the towels out on the floor so the carpet stats clean, the blankets are to wrap the baby in when it's here."
"And the flannel and water are to keep her cool?" Mark asked and watched as Brian nodded.
"She's here, it's a little girl." Esther said as Christina and Mark began crying.
"She's gorgeous." Mark cooed proudly as Esther wrapped the baby up and handed her to Christina being careful of the umbilical cord until the ambulance arrived. "Thank you mum."
"It's not me you want to thanks, its you dad."
"Thank you dad." Mark said as he gave Brian a slight hug.
"It's alright son. She really is gorgeous." Brian said as he took his glasses off and wiped the tears away. "Well done."
