"I'm bored."
Those two words were a perfect summation to their feelings that day. It was pouring rain outside, and both boys were bored out of their minds. The miserable part was that it was only 9 o'clock in the morning, and being cooped up in their LA apartment was not how they wanted to spend their day.
When his best friend had muttered those words, Darren couldn't help but roll his eyes fondly.
"That's the fourth time you've said that in the last hour" he said, sending a raised eyebrow at Joey from his position on the couch. Joey smirked back at him from the floor.
"Just making sure you get the message."
Darren just shook his head and turned back to his phone, continuing to scroll through his texts.
Silence reigned between the two for a few minutes, before Joey spoke up once more.
"When was the last time we actually did anything fun?" He asked, raising his head.
Darren shrugged in reply. "What did you have in mind?"
"I dunno, catch a movie and go rollerblading?" Darren couldn't resist the 'seriously man?' look he sent his best friend's way, but he was met with dancing eyes and a cheeky crooked grin, and he found himself smiling as well.
"Why not?" he replied, picking himself up off the couch and grabbing his coat. Joey glanced up at him surprise.
"I wasn't expecting you to say yes" he muttered, before shrugging and standing as well, stretching out the stiffness in his joints.
Grabbing his own coat from his room, he couldn't help but feel excited. Today was a day with his best friend, no reservations, no issues, no early curfews, just the two of them. His smile became sad when he realised that this was the first time they had been able to do this in a very long time.
"You coming or not?!" Darren called from the hallway.
Hurriedly, he sprinted out into the hall and up to the front door, skidding to halt next to Darren.
"Let's go" he said, barely able to keep the excitement out of his voice: something that didn't go unnoticed by a smiling Darren as they exited the apartment.
As Darren's car pulled up outside one of the many indoor recreation centres in LA, their excitement increased ten-fold. Both boys practically leapt out of the car and sprinted into the centre, trying their best to avoid the pelting rain. They paused momentarily when they entered the grand foyer of the centre.
"Where to first?" Joey asked, raising an eyebrow at Darren, who was virtually ready to leap out of his skin with excitement. Darren looked up at him and fixed him with a look.
"You seriously have to ask?" he joked, smirking before turning and nearly skipping over to the door to the indoor skating rink.
Joey chuckled quietly to himself as he followed at a more sedate pace. He had a feeling that this would end up being a lot of fun.
I know it's short, but I have already started writing the next chapter, which is much longer. This is just a little intro into the devious shenanigans that these two will probably get up to. Hope you enjoy!
