An Escape
She gazed, fascinated, at the raindrops which trailed down the window pane. The floating lamps in the room behind her reflected in their glassy interior and made them glow orange against the pitch black night. They mirrored the tears she had never cried, and that made her laugh. It was a short, harsh, menacing sound, not often heard in Malfoy Manor.
There was a meeting taking place downstairs. That 'Lord Voldemort' was in their home again. Her brother, Lucius, was in awe of their father's friend.
She supposed she ought to join them. He wasn't coming. Of course he wasn't coming. She wasn't good enough. All of her money, her old, tarnished name, her betrothal to Cloten Parkinson, her Slytherin status, it all made her unworthy of such a great man. She was a lost cause.
As the young woman rose from the window seat and turned towards her bedroom door, a sharp tap on the glass drew her attention back to the rainy night. And there he was, his white blond hair barely visible through the dark, hovering outside her window.
"You look surprised," Xenophilius mused.
"You came."
"Well of course. It's terrible manners to keep a lady waiting." He smiled his crinkly-eyed smile and she stepped lightly up unto the window seat, clambering onto his broom and ripping her dark blue robes in the process. She wrapped her arms around his neck and checked that her wand was secured at her waist - the only thing she needed to take with her.
Perdita laughed again as they swooped away, over the countryside to small, round home near Ottery St. Catchpole, thinking of assuming a new identity, muggleborn perhaps, and her family destroying her portrait in their Hall of Ancestors.
She prayed to Merlin that many other lost causes from future Malfoy generations would be able to have their portraits destroyed, too.

Cloten - an arrogant prince who is spurned by his betrothed for her true love in Shakespeare's play Cymbeline.
Perdita - 'lost'.
This is the first in what will be a series of stories about the unknown generations of the Malfoy family, mainly past but with some future generations, too. Most of the characters will be OCs, but characters from the books, like Lucius and Xenophilius in this drabble, will appear. This probably won't be updated very regularly, but I do have a few more ideas.
