Heartless Based on The Pirates of the Caribbean

Chapter 1

"Where could he have gone?" I asked myself as I pulled my coat closer to me. It was too cold for a night like this in the middle of fall, yet it didn't help that I had been standing so close to the ocean. Every time a wave crashed against the seawall, salty ocean air would burn a course through my nose and lungs. As I stood there all along at this ungodly hour, I cursed my fiancé's name under my breath. Who was he to not realize women are vulnerable and shouldn't be left to stand all by themselves in this shady part of the docks without a man by her side?

A loud snap like a twig being snapped in half fleetingly snagged my attention. My heart pounded harder against my chest than it ever has before as I quickly turned around to face the many ships at the docks, looking for anyone, anything lurking in the striking shadows. A figure moved around aboard one of the rusty old ships.

Who is that? Could it be? Will?

I found myself taking quick, eager steps to get away from the cold as I climbed onto the ship. It just had to be him. Who else could it be? "Will!" I called out, feeling some measure of relief, but stepped back in fear when I saw the figure step out into the light lit by the dim streetlight. "Sorry" I apologized as my face turned several shades of red. I spun around and walked down the same path towards the other dock I thought he might be waiting at. This time, another man somehow appeared out of thin air and blocked my view. I found myself face-to-face with a large beast of a man covered head to toe in hair and greasy, oily skin. For someone of his reputation, I felt shocked that he looked the way he did. Judging by the caustic smell of his body odor and what teeth he had remaining, indicated to me he didn't shower or even own a toothbrush.

"I think I need to be headed home now if you would—" I glanced away to avoid his creepy gaze.

"Sorry, dear." He spread out his oversized, flabby arm, thus preventing me from going anywhere. "Can't let you do that."

"And why not?" I demanded, my voice shaking as he laughed at me for being so vulnerable.

"Women don't just come aboard my ship and then leave, unless we're through with them." He added, as a chill ran down my spine.

"I'll scream." My body was betraying me as I shook with fear. These men clearly knew what they were going to do with me and for me knowing it, it was even more sickening. "I'll scream bloody murder."

"No one will hear you." The fat man said. "It's too late for that." He took a large step forward as I took a large step back. My back hit suddenly against a pole with a tattered flag attached. I shook when I realized it wasn't a British ship but a foreign one. These men were pirates.
