Author's Note: Just a random idea I had that I had to try writing. If it's requested I might add more to this. MIGHT not will. I don't own Star Trek. Enjoy the story! 8D!

It was just another day on the Enterprise. Data was in Ten Forward watching a couple interact with one another. His programming allowed him to have companionship, but anything more complex than that he couldn't truly understand. Geordi came into Ten Forward and Data couldn't help but ask him the question that was on his mind.

"Geordi, what is love?" Data asked.

Geordi sighed and rubbed his head really having no idea how to answer Data's question.

"Love is... love is a feeling that people can have. It is something that extends far beyond basic companionship. It's a deep connection that you have to another person and it could be to family, to friends, to a man, to a woman, to anyone basically. It's a feeling that people believe comes from the heart or the soul. Data, being in love romantically is kind of like riding a rollercoaster-

Data looked completely confused, "Geordi, how is being in love like taking a ride on a rollercoaster?"

"It's like that because pretty much you feel sick, but in a good way and like a rollercoaster love has a lot of up and downs Data."

"Ah, I see."

"Do you get it now?"

"Not quite. I'm still confused. Why would people seek love if it produces feelings that would be discomforting."

"It's because of the rewards, Data. The bad parts of love are often worth going through in order to get to the good parts and when it's not people often break off their relationships."

"I see."

"I hope I explained it good enough for you."

"I believe your explanation was adequate. Thank you, Geordi."

"Can you do me a favor, Data?"

"Yes, Geordi."

"Next time you have a question like that ask someone else."

"Okay, Geordi. I will."

"Good."

Geordi watched as Data walked off and he couldn't help but think that Data knew love better than he thought he did.
