War, war never changes.
In times of war humanity has always made leaps and bounds in discovery. In the early 20th centuries humankind made more advances than ever before. Again it was war that drove the majority of those advances. The invention of the electronic amplifying tube (triode) that led to commercial radios and CB radio communication, . The first robots which inspired later robot creators. Scottish biologist Alexander Fleming discovers penicillin which would lead to Med-X and Stimpacks. And then in the late 1930s man would discover something that would shake the very foundations of the world, the power of the Atom.
Uranium was first discovered in 1789 but would not be harnessed till the 1890s. It was not until 1939 that the first idea of using the atom for the one thing that humans had been doing since the first rock was thrown at a enemy, for war. The fist bomb was dropped on august 6th and then the second on august 9th. These bombings would be the catalyst that ended a war, but this would be the beginning of the end.
It would be over 100 years before that end came,...
but come it did.
On October 23 2077 for two whole hours the world burned in atomic fire. For many the end was instant, blinding fiery death. Many had survived by entering one of the over 100 vaults that had been constructed for 20 years and had only completed a few years before. The projected 1000 inhabitants of many vaults was not met because of large amounts of people not believing the alarms because of the cry wolfs that had been happening multiple times over the months preceding the end. Some of the top government officials and the ultra rich survived on an off shore oil rig, others survived in untargeted military instillations and sheltered regions. These places were few that people survived with out the vaults and some didn't survive unscathed. Some of these individuals would not live long, others would live for centuries. for a few after surviving the bombs they would live but at the loss of their humanity or worse their minds. Whether it be because of vault dwelling, computer or science assisted survival, genetics, divine intervention, or just simple chance humans survived the end of the old world. These people would be the foundation of the new world.
Sadly though this is a new world that is built on the ashes of the old world. A world that was changed forever by war.
And war, war never changes.
