The Unexpected Complication

"...I love you."
As soon as those words left his lips, it seemed like the world revolving them stopped. She was unable to slow her quickening heartbeat and the red tint on her cheeks was no help either.
She knew it was a mistake to have feelings for her superior officer when she first realized it. She knew she had to put an end to it; to just see him as someone she has to obey, to iprotect/i, for it was forbidden to have relationships with anyone in the military.
At first she believed it was a really bad idea that she thought of him in a different kind of way. There was no way he could feel the same way towards her. There are thousands of other woman he could be with, without the military, especially the higher ups, getting in between them and saying they can't be together. She was just someone who promised to protect him, to watch his back and to shoot him if ever he strayed off the path. She meant nothing more to him than a subordinate, a First Lieutenant and his protector.
But she is proven wrong.
What if this is just a dream? What if her mind is playing cruel tricks on her again, rubbing her fantasies on her as it did countless of times before? What if this is another one of his jokes?
A lot of questions piled themselves on her mind, as she stared back at him. All she could ever find in his dark pools is seriousness, honesty, sincerity, anxiety... hope. The more she looked at them, the more she got lost in the warm emotions it held. The more she looked at them, she sees more of the real Roy.
It was then that she realized she was at a loss for words. Now she knew how he felt, she could tell him the same. She can finally tell him what she has been cautiously, secretly hiding within her heart. She can finally be free from the misery of bearing unrequited feelings.
Without any verbal response, she grabbed his collar and crushed their lips together.
