AFTERMATH

I need another series to write stuff for...
As for the story itself, I've been thinking about doing a RuRen story for awhile...
The first time he had seen her in the medical ward, she looked like a broken doll: completely bandaged up and broken. Outside, his demeanor was calm and steel while a storm was brewing inside of him. His own injuries weren't as severe and suddenly he hated himself
for it. He had been closer to medical help than she had been, thus the reason why his injuries weren't as harsh. Something stirred in him to take her hand.
"You're alive". She was looking at him, her eyes showing relief.
"Yeah...", he grinned. "Shhh...try not to talk too much."
"Has the enemy left?"
"The Royal Guard came in and scared them off for now," he continued grimly. "But I get the feeling that they'll be back".
They talked casually for a little while until she asked the question that he had been dreading.
"Nii-sama", she asked, "Is Nii-sama alive?"
He shook his head quietly. Rukia just stared at the ceiling and replied with a simple, "I see."

She was quiet; according to the staff, she barely ate. She was in some pain, but barely complained. The funeral for all of the fallen would take place' with individual funerals to take place for months. Most of the squads were taken out: all in all, there had been over 10,000 fatalities including the Captain Commander himself. Her mind was thinking of someone else, other than her departed brother.
"Ichigo's okay, if that's what you're worried about." Renji had regretted saying it as soon as it came out of his mouth. He instantly looked away, not wanting her to see him blush with embarrassment.
"That's a little harsh", she sighed.
"Yeah". He apologized. she was about to say more when all of a sudden she felt him embrace her tightly. And for the first time ever she felt his body vibrate with sobs. Normally she would shy away from such displays but she held onto him anyway.
"I'm glad you're okay too", she whispered. Then something else happened unexpectedly.
He kissed her. Not just a brotherly peck on the cheek but deep on the lips. Something different. "Sorry", he rested his head gently on top of hers, "I can't lose you too. I just can't!"
"You won't." She squeezed his hand. "I promise."
