A Friend for Lewis

By: M. L. Night

This is a monlogue I wrote for my drama class that is losely based off of Meet the Robinsons. It's written as if we could hear Lewis talking to a stuffed bear about making friends. The 'Beats' represent the bear talking back. I understand that Lewis in reality wouldn't be worried about making friends with Wilbur, Franny and Cornelius, but it fit the idea.

Disclaimer: I do not own Meet The Robinson. I really wish I did, but sadly that's not going to happen. I might as well keep dreaming.

A Friend for Lewis

Well of course I have friends; I've got you right? (Beat)

Don't give me that. You mean way more to me then that. (Beat)

What does it matter if you're a bear. A friend's a friend, right? (Beat)

Well I don't care if you can talk back. The point is that I can talk to you. (Beat)

Well, maybe I don't want to make any new friends. (Beat)

Well… well because new friends don't want me! (Beat)

Let's face it, no one wants me. That's why I'm still stuck in this crummy orphanage. (Beat)

What do you mean? I'm plenty open! (Beat)

Why should I have to talk to them first? Why can't they approach me? It should go both ways, shouldn't it? (Beat)

What about Wilbur? (Beat)

Talk to him? Are you crazy? (Beat)

But he's always getting into trouble! You know that one time he actually stole his dad's time machine! I don't think I really want to get in with him. I might even start getting into trouble. (Beat)

Franny? Franny scares me. Did you know that she knows karate? I've seen her practicing with her brothers. And she always wins. (Beat)

No, I don't think there's anyone to talk too. (Beat)

Cornelius… yeah… maybe. (Beat)

I don't know. What if he doesn't want to be my friend? He's really smart. I mean really smart. He even invents stuff for fun! What if he thinks I'm not smart enough? You know that I'm too stupid to be his friend. (Beat)

You know you're right, I'm not going to know unless I try, right? I'm going to talk to him tomorrow. (Beat)

Thanks Teddy, you're the best!
