A/N: Hey, guys! This is my first fic on here, un-beta'd, so sorry about any mistakes. Enjoy!

Disclaimer: If I owned Ranger's Apprentice, I can think of more than a few things that would be different...

It was yet another day, neither good nor bad so far. This may have been because Halt still hadn't gotten out of bed, however.

He lay curled on his side, head buried under his blanket, relishing the warmth. He knew that as soon as he flung back the covers, he would be hit with a blast of cold air, and he shivered slightly at the thought. For now, though, all was peaceful, warm, and quiet...

"Halt?"

Oh, no, he thought.

"Halt?"

Oh, please, no.

"Halt? Halt! Hey, Halt! Haalt! Halt!Halt!Halt!HeyHalt!Halt!Halt!Halt!Halt!Haaaaaaaaalt!HeyHa-"

"WHAT?" he yelled, flinging back the covers to glare at his five-year-old sister.

Her face glowing innocently, she took a deep breath, then paused. Her face scrunched up in an expression of uncertainty. "I forget."

Halt growled and swung at her as she scampered away.

He was walking around, minding his own business. He didn't really have any plans for this afternoon, just to find the quietest spot he could and just...relish it.

He finally found his spot and was just sitting down when-

"There you are!" his sister said as she jogged up to him. "I've been looking all over for you!"

Halt suppressed a groan. "And why, pray tell, is that?"

Either oblivious to the sarcasm in his words, or just ignoring it, she replied, "'Cause Mom's looking for you." She couldn't stop an evil grin from spreading across her face at this. "And she's mad." With that ominous pronouncement, she flounced off.

Halt cursed under his breath as he watched her go, then reluctantly rose to follow. Ever since Caitlyn had turned ten, she had been more insufferable than ever. He determined that sometime in the near future, he was going on vacation. They say Gallica is nice this time of year, he thought. I just need to survive my family...

"HALT!"

Halt cringed as he heard his sister scream his name. He turned slowly to meet her furious gaze as she stomped down the hall toward him. "What did you do with it?" she demanded.

"What?" he asked innocently, though not as calmly as he had hoped.

"You know what!" she growled, with all the fury of a sixteen-year-old robbed. "My hairbrush is missing, and you're the only one in this dump who could have taken it!"

"I really don't know what you're talking about, Cait," he said. "Besides," he continued before she could interrupt, "why would I want your hairbrush?"

She considered his point for a moment. "I don't know," she reluctantly conceded. Halt felt a brief flare of relief, which was quickly extinguished as his sister continued. "All I do know is that you're the only one who could have done it. Remember the time..."

Halt tuned her out after that, thinking, I have got to get out of here.

Review, please! I do have to ask for you to refrain from non-constructive criticism, though.

EDIT: Okay, now I've read Kings of Clonmel and know Halt's sister's name. When I wrote this, all I had to go on was spoilers from Wikipedia. Anyway, her name's right now. But you know the weird part? When I wrote this, I didn't know that Halt really had a sister. O_O What can I say, I'm PSYCHIC. Of course, whenever I tell my mom that, she says I'm psycho...nevertheless, this be fixed! lolz
