As soon as he'd seen that plant. All he had been able to think of was her.
The plant had been a apartment warming present from Shelley to Teal'c, just a few weeks ago. An apartment warming that they'd all attended. Even though Daniel and Shelley had kept their distance from each other. But they had found their eyes drifting towards each other every few minutes. Their separation had been hard on everyone, especially their friends. Not wanting to take sides in such a personal matter, Teal'c had invited them both. Sam had spent most of the night talking to Shelley and Jack had done his best not to knock Daniel's lights out for hurting his sister.
As he looked at the plant, noticing its wilted and dried leaves, Daniel thought how much his marriage had wilted. And how it had all been his fault. Having, just for one moment, kissing Leda, and having Shelley caught them. He'd hurt her more than he ever thought he could.
When he'd seen her at that party, seeing the ever present hurt look on her face, all he wanted to do was to take it all back. But it wasn't just that. He missed not having her next to him when he woke up in the morning. Feeling her soft skin, seeing her smile. It made him miss her.
After leaving Teal'c's apartment, he'd made the journey home and found it empty.
Daniel looked at his watch, realising the time. It was normally this time of day, after Shelley had picked up Mia from day care, that they'd go to the park, not far from their house.
The park wasn't too crowded and it didn't take him long to spot them by the swings.
Mia was sitting on the swing, whilst her mother pushed her, faster and faster.
"Higher, higher,"
Daniel smiled as he watched his daughter almost being launched into orbit. It was another of the things he missed. Having hardly spending enough time with his daughter as it was, now he barely got to see her at all and only when Shelley agreed.
"Daddy," Mia screamed.
Shelley looked up, seeing Daniel a few feet away. She stopped the swing, helping her daughter out of it and watched as the 2 year old toddled towards her daddy.
"Daddy,"
Daniel leant down, picking Mia up in his arms. Shelley continued to look at him, a mixture of annoyance and happiness. The last few weeks, her time in the park with her daughter was something she looked forward to, every day. After they played together, she took Mia to play with the other children on the other side of the park. Giving her a chance to chat with the other mothers and sometimes think about what was happening in her life. And not really liking where her marriage was headed. Missing Daniel as much as her daughter did.
"What are you doing here? I thought you'd be at the base?" she asked.
"I was, but I had some free time, so I thought I'd see my daughter," Daniel said, dropping Mia back down on to the ground.
The toddler still hung on to her daddy's legs, refusing to let go.
"Why didn't you call first?"
"I went round to the house, but you weren't in. I thought you'd be here!"
Shelley nodded.
"Do you have to get back?" she asked.
Daniel shook his head and smiled.
"Not for a while," he whispered.
He looked down at his daughter who was now permanently attached to his leg.
"I don't think you'd be able to go if you tried,"
Shelley picked up her daughter, resting her on her hip. Daniel looked at the two of them. The two loves of his life. He had to do everything he could to make sure that he was back in their lives. Although there was no hope for the plant back in Teal'c's apartment. Daniel hoped that with a bit more care, time and watering, that his marriage would flourish and grow strong, again.
