Light was sitting at the desk, calmly typing (unlike his previously demonstrated writing style). L slouched on the seat beside him, the chain connecting them serving as a nuisance to Light now that he had his memories back. How long was L going to keep this up?

"Hey Light," he suddenly said, and Light raised his head to see what the detective wanted. "Have a razor blade."

Light's eyes widened and he stared at the offered blade. "What? Isn't it a bit dangerous to be giving your prime suspect a weapon?"

"Hm. Probably," he said, shrugging, "But seriously, just take it."

Cautiously, Light took the blade in his hand, eyeing the older man strangely. 'Is this a trick? What is he trying to do? I know he thinks I'm Kira so…' "Um… okay."

"Now," L stood up, scooping something up from a basket beside him, "Pretend you're holding a pen, and start writing as if there's nobody here."

"… uh-huh…" Light began to write in his spastic manner – well, not write precisely, more like slice the air, but anyway… suddenly, he became aware that L was throwing paper at him.

"Dang, missed. Missed again. Dammit. Light, could you please slow down for a minute, so I can get the rhythm right?"

Light obeyed, asking as he did so, "Ryuuzaki, is this some kind of bizarre test to see if I am Kira?"

L didn't reply at once, throwing the paper yet again, this time hitting the blade. "Ok, speed up gradually," he instructed, and Light did so. It seemed, as far as Light could tell, that L had decided to use Light as a paper shredder. Every time the paper hit the blade, Light's crazy style sliced it in half. "Anyway, in answer to your question, what purpose could I possibly serve by testing you this way?"

'A very good question…' Light just shrugged. "Maybe you think this will show that Kira's ego matches mine, and that as a result he has to make a show of his writing?"

"Possibly. Except, no. Not at all. Why would Kira write the way you do? He'd look like a freak, not to mention, he'd draw waaay too much attention to himself."

L had not ceased throwing paper, and Light's arm was starting to get tired. "So, why then?"

"Coz. It's fun."
