Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto or it's characters.
A/N: Just a little something that's been lying in my documents for ages now. I wasn't even aware that I'd finished the thing.
Always, Boy.
Sad blue eyes threw short glances at the playing children, before his sight returned to the ground beneath the swing. His feet pushed against the ground, the swing swinging with a soothing speed. Almost like the way a mother would rock the crib of her child to lull it to sleep. His mouth was turned upwards in a huge Cheshire grin.
Always smile, little boy.
A kunai hit its target, causing a few splints to fall off. The blond boy grinned.
Seven kunai hit their targets. The black haired boy gave him a superior smirk. The shorter boy stuck his tongue out at him, and grinned again. "I'll beat you soon Saskuke. Just wait and see! I'll be the Hokage one day!" The other just snorted before walking away.
Always dream, little boy.
The ramen was quickly disappearing from the bowl, being slurped into the mouth of a boy with whisker marks on his cheeks. The boys eyes were closed, his mouth set in his usual foxy grin. The man beside him was staring at him in fear, not having touched his food since he noticed who it was seated next to him.
The child turned to him, his features still set in the foxy expression he wore so often. "What is it, old geezer?" The man stood abruptly, backing away from the boy. The child responded by tilting his head to the side, his brows furrowed slightly.
A scream echoed in the village from the small ramen stand, a cry of "Demon!" clear for anyone who was there to hear. Anyone passing by the ramen stand could see a man running out of the stand with fear etched on his face.
The people who were enjoying their food simply stared at the small boy, and the place where the man had been. The boy responded with another foxy grin, which the other guests took with a hateful glare sent in his direction.
If someone had taken care to notice – which no one did – they would've noticed the sad eyes, hidden behind the Cheshire grin.
Always hide, boy.
"Naruto? Stay behind. I want to talk to you." Iruka's voice stopped Naruto dead in his tracks on the way out of the classroom. The boy turned around and smiled his Cheshire grin at his favorite teacher.
"What is it, Iruka-Sensei?" The man sighted before walking over to Naruto, placing his hands on Naruto's shoulders.
"Naruto…"
"What is it, Iruka-sensei?"
"Are you… okay?"
Naruto closed his eyes, the Cheshire grin not leaving his facial features. The effect was quite similar to that of a fox, and against his will, Iruka shuddered. "Why wouldn't I be?"
With that, Naruto turned around and left, leaving Iruka behind.
Always lie, boy.
