When Priest had started his humming, Hicks and Lucy had hoped he was getting better. That he was growing accustomed to his newly vampiric existence. Priestess had known better, though she kept her silence.
"Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
And then leave me alone"
Priest moved voluntarily now, still strangely quick to the humans, where as before he had been a blur in his frantic movements.
He had started to eat too, taking the blood they gave him, though he still refused to eat in front of them.
And, to the mismatched group's relief, he had stopped eyeing their weapons.
"Don't try to wake me in the morning
'cause I will be gone"
Looking back on this, Priestess watched Lucy grin happily at her fathers almost soothing humming. She absently wondered if the young ones would be so pleased if they knew its underlying meaning; if they knew what he was asking for every time he started the mournful tune.
"Don't feel bad for me
I want you to know"
Priestess wondered if Lucy's childish grin, or Hicks' confidence, would last through knowing their hero was wordlessly begging them for death.
"Deep in the cell of my heart
I will feel so glad to go"
