Corvus Corax

Today was not going well. While the invasion of New York was over, the city was far from recovery. Shredded streets and collapsed buildings were far from repaired. The hospitals that hadn't been damaged or outright destroyed were inundated with injured and ill individuals. The only miracle was that no one had died. That was the fact that had Nicholas Fury the most worried. An alien invasion should have left many casualties, many dead. Excavation efforts had found many mangled bodies, even more comatose ones, but no corpses. There was definitely something going on.

Fury didn't believe it to be a result of the presence of the tesseract. People had died in it's presence before. He doubted it was the portal either. Probably not an interaction between the two either. That only left one conclusion and it was one he greatly disliked. A single explanation for Thor's odd behavior after the battle. A single reason for Loki's submissive disposition. A very valid justification for everyone's unease. The source of such disquiet was perched atop The Stark Tower without any seeming care. It was horned and ridged. It's spined scales a measure of contrasts, smooth yet rough. Yet it was as placid as it's color might indicate, black as the night, the void, and death.

Fury had run an identity match for the hell of it. Make no mistake, he already knew what it was. Now he knew who it was. We're he more naive he might have wished he didn't. He had decided to leave it to Thor, Iron Man, and Hawkeye. Anyone else would simply be useless or in the way. They could continue assisting with and providing cover for the ongoing evacuation. Even the mighty Hulk would struggle against such an opponent. The collateral damage would be enormous. Most humans would be a lamb before the wolf against such a thing.

A dragon. Who would have thought. It wasn't just any dragon, either. It was a rather well known dragon, even if it only reached it's acclaim less than a year ago.

It was The Dragon.
