I was sitting in a lawn chair just watching the midnight sky; watching lost in my own thoughts. I couldn't or I should say wouldn't listen to anything that was happening around me. I was picking out different constellations out of the sky when I landed on the Dog Star. Now I have forgotten which constellation holds the majestic Dog Star.
I have always hated the feeling of someone staring at me. I have always been able to feel that even if the person was behind me. Then I became aware of that feeling again. Looking around anxiously I see a shining pair of eyes watching me. Fear and wonder fill me as I start to walk towards those eyes.
As I walk it seems that everything else around me has seemed to stop. The bushes that those eyes were hiding in grow thinner. I notice that the eyes belong to a dog. The blackest dog I've seen. So black that it matches with sky above us, and the eyes twinkling like the stars. I look back up to the sky and the first star I see the Dog Star first and immediately whisper, "Sirius?"
I look back at the dog to see that it is not a dog anymore, it's a human; a human with dark limp hair and sparkling eyes. His eyes sparkling simultaneously with the corresponding star.
He moves towards me and now do I realize how he towers over me. My breath hitches in my chest when I feel his breath against my neck. His hand comes up to caress my cheek and he looks into my eyes. I can see thousands of emotions streaming through his eyes. I can see his past and his present glinting in those eyes. Everything that has happened to him I can see.
Whether he knows it or not, I am a part of him now. I am sure he knows now. His eyes widen as he back away from me. He starts to run away toward a forest not far from my home. Before he gets too far I see him glance back at me. I see what he wants me to see. He shows me a picture of his eyes with only one emotion; longing. He returns to his dog form once again and runs faster than before.
I can no longer see him. The darkness has taken him from me once again. That is one reason I love the stars so much. They are my only connection to him. Long and few are our meetings, so I look to one star for console. My Dog Star shines with a red glow now and I know. I know I shall see him again.
