Thought it'd be a good idea to start a drabble collection! Hopefully this'll help me get better at writing. Still got a long way to go.
I also want to try writing other characters/relationships (be it romantic platonic, or familial), hence my decision to take requests if anyone would like. Maybe? (Perhaps even just some little ideas that I can try to build from...)
Anyway, the first entry in this little collection is, of course, CraLing.
Title:Safe
Characters:Mei Ling, Crane
Summary: She was looking at Crane now, who searched her face for any sign of a reaction. Finally, a look of adoration befell the feline's dainty features. She gazed at him, eyes shining.
Mei Ling's eyes fluttered open, rays of sunlight filtering through her lashes. Everything is bathed in light, almost too bright for her to even notice the tall figure hovering over her. Her eyes adjust and her vision focuses. She smiles sleepily and stretches as she yawns.
"Morning," she says, voice scratchier than usual with sleep.
The avian smiles at the mountain cat and responds through a softer voice of his own. "Morning. Sleep well?"
Mei Ling sat up and chuckled. "You mean once I actually got to sleep?"
"Hmm, sure, let's go with that." Crane teased, and the feline's almond shaped eyes crinkled as the corners of her mouth tilted up as she stood.
"You're awfully cheeky this morning..." she thought, looking him up and down. The waterfowl's white chest feathers were ruffled from when she ran her paws through them last night. His dark neck plumage was also in disarray; she recalls kissing and nibbling his neck. The feline fought the urge to do so again. She caught the mischievous glimmer in his eyes. "What are you up to?"
Crane gave one of his rare smirks before putting his wings around Mei Ling's waist. He began pecking lovingly at her neck as she tried to stifle her giggles. Crane keeps pecking, until Mei Ling feels him raking his feathers along her lower back and she laughs aloud.
"Crane! Haha! Q-quit it!" she yelped. "S-stop it! I mean it!" Mei Ling tried to push the bird away, but he continued, grinning all the while.
The mountain cat's laughter subsided after a while, Crane's tickling coming to an end. As the two settled down, Mei smiled at Crane, only to find a tender expression on his face. "Cra-?"
Her fur bristled when he suddenly pulled her in, all the while keeping his eyes on hers. She bit her lip. As his wing found its way around her body again, Mei Ling relaxed. She sighed, letting out a slight hum, eyelids getting heavier.
"Hey, Mei?" Crane's gentle voice barely registered as sleep began to beckon her in the peaceful moment. It was relaxing, bring around him. The bird always seemed to have a soothing affect for her; she felt safe around him.
"Hmm?" she hummed, waiting for him to continue. She felt him pause. "Crane?" she queried, eyes still closed, "Something wrong?"
"I love you." At this point, Mei Ling was pulled back into reality. She was looking at Crane now, who searched her face for any sign of a reaction. Finally, a look of adoration befell the feline's dainty features. She gazed at him, eyes shining.
"I love you, too," Mei said through a broad smile. Crane gave her a gentle smile and leaned in towards her.
