The darkness hurt, more than anything Jonathan had ever felt. It tore ragged claws through his body leaving him gasping as the sick delirium threatened to overcome him. He felt himself slipping into it. So this was what it felt like to die. It didn't disappoint; life was terror and hatred, it seemed fitting death should be born of blood and fear. Fear, his life's work, the overwhelming obsession of his mind. This means the end of your precious mind Johnny.

And there he was, Scarecrow, it was too much to hope that at his end the dark entity that had haunted his nightmares as a boy and had become a part of himself as an adult would go quietly. But Jonathan's alter seemed...different. The normally rasping voice it adopted had changed, becoming deeper, growling its taunts instead of snarking them at Jonathan. Was Scarecrow hurting like he was? Could he even feel pain?

"This means the end of you too Crow, or did you forget you're a part of me?"

A part of his messed up head that was.

Scarecrow laughed humorlessly, suddenly the darkness that had seemed unpenatratable before was rent away easily and a pair of bright golden orbs stared back at him consuming his vision. If he could have stumbled back he would have, probably would have shrieked like his paitents if his vocal cords hadn't been severed along with the rest of his throat. As it were he was forced to stare into a face he'd never seen unable to look away, the face that owned half his soul, Scarecrow.

That's where you're wrong Johnny-boy, it's your time to die. I, on the other hand, will live on. If not in your mind, then in another's.

Jonathan felt a final sharp pain in his torso, wrenching it's way through his ragged body. He refused to cry out even as his body arched away from the cracking, decrepit outer wall of Arkam. He slumped back down, head hanging, body crumpling as Joker's insane laughter echoed into the strangely dark night. Even Scarecrow was silent now. I am truly alone. Was the last thought that fought its way into his mind before everything went black.
