Seto is always surprised when he awakens in the morning and finds her still beside him. Most females--after seeing what he is capable of--would have run and called him a cold-hearted bastard. But she doesn't, not anymore at least. There was the one time when she had fled from him to another room down the hall, close to where her friend lay with her own lover.

He knows that, despite the darkness that existed at the start of their relationship and the darkness that would continue to exist, she still loves him. She lets him control her, she lets him hurt her when he needs to break something lest he break himself. And she has forgiven him for the harsh words that have slipped past his throat and for the bruises he has left--and will leave--on her perfect ivory skin.

But why?

Seto is never surprised that he has not left her. She is lovely, with a core of strength that still manages to surprise him. He would never keep a woman who merely shattered, but her willing and continued submission has a power to it that he cannot ignore.

She chooses this. She chooses him, every time she permits him to hurt her and every time she does not leave. Every day he asks her, "Do you want to go?"

And every day she answers, "No."
