Ion Nin 3

(A Touch of Mirkwood)

Oof! Estel landed on his back. Maybe running had not been the best of ideas he thought to himself as he looked up at the being he had plowed into. For just a moment he thought it was Glorfindel. Glorfindel having been the only Elf he had seen with blonde hair. But he quickly dismissed this idea. The Elf glaring down at him was much more imposing than the friendly balrog-slayer, and he had four or five friends with him.

"I did not realize Lord Elrond kept slaves here," the elf sneered down at Estel in basic.

The boy was confused. Since coming to Rivendell a year and half ago he had repressed most of his memories of his Human parents and had forgotten what little he knew of their language.

"I am sorry," Estel scrambled to his feet. "I did not hurt you, did I?"

The smile at the barb he had thrown slipped from the Elf's face at the boy's fluent Elven words.

"Do you think your Elvish will appease me, you..."

Another Elf of the group grabbed his friend's arm. "Maikadur, Lord Elrond does not keep slaves. You know that. He has always had better dealings with the Humans then we have. The Human child must be here for a reason. You should leave him alone," he urged.

Maikadur was not to be put down. His father's hatred of Humans ran to deep in his own blood. "Mind your own business, Rosfin. I will not let this thing get away with what he has done." He HhhHe jerked his arm from the other's grasp and eyed Estel once more. "You should know your place, or I will teach it to you."

Entering just at that moment, Elladan and Elrohir caught Maikadur's last remarks. Blood boiling, the twins headed for the group of Elves around Estel. Mirkwood envoy or not they would not get away with this. A harsh voice stopped them.

"You should know your place, Master Elf." Elrond stood in the doorway of the room. Glorfindel and Erestor behind him. Erestor looking dazed like he had smacked into the back of Elrond. Elrond did not notice, his angry gaze on the elves in front of him.

This was a face the twins knew to never argue with.

"How dare you come to my land in my home and insult my son."

Maikadur went pale. "But my Lord, he is just a Human."

This only served to enrage Elrond more. He drew closer to the envoy, his withering stare making them shrink. "Whether Elf, Human, or Hobbit, that boy is my son, and no one speaks to him in that manner. Now get out. All of you. I have no wish to hear pleasantries from King Thronduil when I cannot tolerate his subjects. Out!"

Rosfin once again grabbed Maikadur's arm and ushered his fellow Elves out behind him. "I am so sorry, My Lord." He apologized. Dragging his companion with him, he quickly left.

"Estel?" Warmth colored Elrond's voice where anger had been moments before. He held out his hand, and the boy came to his side. "Since I no longer have a meeting to attend to, what say you we see if we can hurry Thalendur along with dinner?"

Estel was still confused with all that had happened. But seeing Elrond happy again, and at the mention of food, Estel smiled widely. "Yes, Ada."

Elrond led Estel from the room, Elladan and Elrohir following slowly behind. Elladan knew he and his brother had come to love Estel greatly. It was nice to know their father felt the same. It looked like Estel had officially become his little brother. He smiled.

Confused Erester spoke up, "Glorfindel, What just happened? What is going on?"

Glorfindel patted Erestor's back sympathetically, "Try not to walk into furniture, my friend."

"Furniture?! I did not walk into any furniture!" "Glorfindel? Glorfindel, come back here."
