The taller girl looks down at the shorter, eyes full of worry. The shorter smiles convincingly back. The taller can now tell that it's fake... It always has been. She had been best friends with a girl for years and had never even knew that her friend was so broken. Jade was angry at herself; how could she have been so blind?
Then it dawns on the girl; her friend was an actress -and a talented one at that-. She had noticed one thing about Cat; she was much better at comic scenes than emotional, gritty, realistic scenes. 'Perhaps,' Jade thought, 'this was because she had spent so much of her life hiding her emotions that she felt, it unnatural to force them to the surface. Maybe she was scared that once she had broken out of her shell that she'd never get back in.' It hurt Jade to see her friend so scared to break down in front of her.
While Jade was deep in though Cat's mind begins verbally abusing her with profanity ridden insults generally along the lines of: 'You stupid b***! Why did you tell her? She doesn't care about you! No one does!'.
Cat suddenly has an idea, she looks up into her friend's eyes and begins to giggle.
"Got ya Jadey!" She squeaks in her usual 'Cat' voice.
Jade's eyes fill with rage and Cat's with relief, quickly followed by fear. Jade believes Cat and as a result Cat has probably just lost her only real friend. She takes a deep breath to keep the tears at bay as her friend begins to shout at her.'
Cat only manages to pick up on certain words; 'stupid', 'naive', 'inconsiderate' and 'unbelievable', to name a few of the cleaner ones. And, as her friend leaves Cat crumbles. She's alone. She'll always be alone...
'Just the way I like it.'
