Alana Wyndham had had been to many towns throughout the USA and already she knew she didn't like this one. She and her mother, Miriam, had moved to the quiet town of South Vale from the bustling New Orleans. Fourteen years ago they had left Silent Hill and now they were back. Alana didn't remember anything about it but she knew that her mother had gone crazy as soon as they crossed the town line. Miriam started to mumble and she was constantly taking her hands of the wheel to look into the back seat.

"Mom! What are you doing?" Alana cried as she grabbed the wheel for the third time.

"You didn't see that?" Miriam asked. Her grayish blonde hair was frizzed and disheveled; she wiped her mouth and smeared her lipstick onto her cheek. The bags under her eyes darkened as her eyeliner was also smeared, she looked like a crazed clown.

"See what? God! Pull over I'm driving!" Alana steered as her mother eased on the gas and applied the break. They were still on Nathan Avenue on the shoulder of the road, ahead and to the right Alana could see a billboard.
