Save Me

House thinks of Cuddy in one of his drug-induced trances.

Cold. Dark. Lonely.

The skinny man with the scraggly stubble opens his eyes.

Bright. Bright...can't see...

He blinks rapidly, propping himself on his elbows, looking around dizzily.

Lonely.

His eyes widen in shock.

Cuddy.

He sees a woman, shrouded in ghostly mists, standing above him. She beams.

'House...'

She holds out her hand to him. He reaches up to grasp it, but the figure disappears in a puff of smoke. Tears leak out of his eyes.

Cuddy...

The face fills his mind. Collapsing back to the ground, his head thunking heavily on the tiles, he sees nothing but her face. The grey eyes are smiling, the dark hair is thrown back, the mouth open, laughing, joyous.

Cuddy...beautiful...Cuddy...

Simple thoughts run through his mind, one-word mantras. He stretches out another hand to a phantom that even he no longer sees.

'Cuddy...'

He whispers, the first words he's spoken.

'Save...me...'
