Story #1
Sakura
Sakura blossoms are renowned for their beauty and symbolize grace and sometimes intelligence and femininity. However, they are only in season for a short period of time before dying, making them exquisite, rare, and treasured.
"Tch. Annoying." Uchiha Sasuke drawled bluntly, his crimson eyes burning into Sakura's battered soul, burning away the last of his bonds. His voice betrayed none of what he was truly feeling, only showing coldness and indifference.e
"Sasuke...I…I…." Sakura choked out, tears of love and hatred cleaning some of the dirt off her pale face.
Before she could even finish her sentence, though, Sasuke was inches away from her, Sharingan flaring. He had moved so fast it was as if he had teleported. His face was contorted, filled with bloodlust, and his hand was covered with ice blue electricity. Chidori. The chirping and crackling of the electricity was the last thing she registered before it was plunged into her chest.
Agony like she had never felt before exploded in her chest, her limbs tingling painfully, lungs screaming for air. The pain, oh the pain, burned and stung and bruised every part of her. Dumbly, she thought to herself, 'So...this is how it ends. Fitting I would die by the hand of someone I love…'
She relaxed, blocking out the excruciating pain, accepting her end, closing her eyes.
'Goodbye…' she thought. And her mind drifted off, blinded by agony.
But something in it wavered slightly, a slight distortion in the nightmare. That one small detail triggered something in her mind, a better trained part of herself. Her eyes snapped open again.
Genjutsu.
Kakashi watched in shock and disbelief as the young Uchiha widened his bloody eyes. Numb with horror at how low he had fallen, he caught Sakura as she fell, ensnared in his torturous illusion. Her face, smeared with blood and grime, twisted with unimaginable agony, but it was still there; her devotion to Sasuke and Naruto etched onto a face mangled with fear.
'Sakura…' he gazed down at his student. She was always there, naggy and pestering. Yet, it was in a way that he, along with the rest of Konoha, had grown fond of. He had no more words for his student that was cloaked in darkness and malice.
"Sasuke! You didn't have to do that!" cried Naruto, nearly in tears as he watched Sakura's body jerk in pain.
"Sasuke...why? Why?! She only ever loved you! She only ever wanted to help!"
His furious gaze fell on Sasuke, accusing and filled with hurt.
"She's a burden," Sasuke said simply, and turned away, unbothered. It was as if her 'death' had meant nothing to him at all. Merely an inconvenience. "Let's go. We're wasting time here."
Hesitating, Naruto glanced at Sakura's spasming body indecisively.
Seeing this, Kakashi nodded, forcing down the lump in his throat. In his heart, he felt, he knew that only two members of Team 7 would make it back to Konoha alive. "I'll keep her safe. Bring Sasuke back. For Sakura."
Naruto allowed a grin to appear on his harrowed face, the first smile either of them had seen in a long time. "Thanks, sensei."
He looked tenderly at Sakura again, then tore his gaze away and followed the Uchiha into dusty, smoky air.
