~Frozen~ Oneshot, Season 4 Episode 1

Today is a good day to die, Arthur thought. He knew the spirit was coming, its wailing growing louder and louder until it seemed almost unbearable. Turning himself over onto his knees, he heaved himself upward.

Then out of now where, a pale hand grabbed his arm, pulling him back down again. His metal armor smashed into his knees, making him grunt in pain. A brown blur sprung up from behind him, and he realized what had happened.

"Merlin NO!" Arthur screamed. But he knew he was to late. The deed was done, and Merlin had already thrown himself in front of Arthur's way. His breath stopped and time seemed to slow down.

His servant….servant, not warrior, knight, guard, no….just a servant. How many times had he forgotten him? How often did he forget he was always by his side, ready to step in like he just did? Why did Merlin have to be so selfless?

I'm happy to be your servant, till the day I die…

And hadn't it been Merlin who had been frightened of a shadow in the corner of his room? This couldn't be the same man, from frightened to self-sacrificing.

Everything seemed to move at half its regular pace, and a painful fear seized his body. Merlin took another step and leaped into air, his weight forward driving himself head-on into the creature. And then the spirit wailed, a terrible gut-wrenching sound that made Arthur shiver. As soon as its wispy form touched his manservant, all the momentum Merlin had built up was halted, leaving him hanging in the air.

The smoke surrounded him, screaming, so much screaming. Merlin was thrown backwards, and all Arthur could do was watch. His eyes followed the figure as it smashed into the wall, and fell. Landing in a heap at the base of the wall, back turned, Arthur finally took in a shaky short breath. His mouth was half open in shock, and he found it hard to breath properly.

A clatter of metal coming from the doorway, and his own knights burst into the cold room. The Dorocha turned and rushed towards them. But Lancelot waved the torch, making the mist dissipate and disappear. Arthur stared, now heaving breaths.

"What happened?" Lancelot asked. The others behind him watched him, confusion and tension in their faces.

At this point, Arthur could no longer speak, his voice had all but disappeared. He merely turned his head toward his limp manservant. Merlin.

No, this can't have happened. There is no way that this could have happened. There was always someone else lying dead on the ground, not Merlin. He didn't belong there.

But there he lay, as the group approached him. Lancelot and Arthur sank to their knees, and grabbed a bit of the frozen body. There was no breath, no life. And as Lancelot turned him over onto his back, the all gave a gasp.

Merlin's eyes were wide open, and sightless, their piercing blue striking against this white skin. All they did was stare, and it was horrible to see. There was no peace, his blue lips parted in a almost shocked face. He was scared. Had been scared.

"What happened?" Lancelot asked again. His shaking hands let the man's body lay once more against the rough floor.

Arthur shook his head, "He can't be….he, saved me…Merlin…" Tears began falling down his face.

Lancelot struggled to regain composure, and his hands began to tremble. Arthur couldn't stand it any longer. He stood up slowly, and turned away from the body. Pervals strong hand grasped his shoulder and gave him a little comfort.

"Sire!" Lancelot called. Arthur turned around to see Lancelot's smiling face, beaming at the now shivering manservant. "He's alive!"

So, yeah, that's it. I just started writing, and couldn't stop! XD So review! Tell me what you thought about this fic, or just the new episode! WOOT! MERLIN IS RETURNED!
