Just after the battle for Helm's Deep, the fellowship and the remaining men journey to Gondor, to re-gather their strength, and to join forces against Mordor. Eomer is just a few miles outside the gates, scouting for possible spies from Mordor, and for returning soldiers.
He hears noises not far off, noises of a small battle. He follows the noises, and comes upon several orcs, surrounding the most beautiful creature that he has ever seen. He didn't recognize her as anything other than an elf.
She was trying her hardest to fight them off, and several dead orcs were already strewn at her feet. Eomer raced to her aid, but only too late, and the elf was struck by an arrow. Eomer was amazed to see that she withstood the blow, and continued to fight them. With the help of Eomer, the last of the orcs were killed, and the elf collapsed to the ground. Eomer lifted her onto his horse, and rode fast back to Gondor.
When at last he arrived back to the kingdom, he called to Legolas and Gimli for assistance. Legolas looked at her, and his blood drained from his face. "Go and get Aragorn! NOW!" The dwarf stopped to protest, and Legolas yelled even louder. "NOW!!!"
Eowyn and Aragorn were sitting together in an empty room when Gimli burst into the room. "Legolas calls for you, and it seems very important."
"What's wrong?" Aragorn got a sudden chill. Gimli started to tell him about a wounded elf maiden brought into the kingdom. Aragorn stopped breathing, and ran out of the room.
Arwen lay in the hallway, stiff and cold. Aragorn's heart stopped beating when he saw her laying there. He picked her up, and brought her into his bedroom, and lay her on the bed, covering her with as many blankets as possible.
Two days past, and Arwen, still alive, didn't wake up. Aragorn sat and lay with her, never once moving or sleeping. Guards came in to inform him that Gondor was under attack, and that he was needed. When he refused, the guards insisted, but Aragorn instead drew his sword, and chased the guards out. "I WILL NOT LEAVE HER!!" He cried after them. After a while, the King came into the room.
"It's no use, Aragorn. She will not wake up. She is as good as dead." Tears overcame him, and he still would not move.
"Then I will die with her, because without her, I have no reason to carry on." Theoden saw that it was no use, and left him.
Aragorn looked at her face, and gently kissed her forehead, his tears dampening her skin. "Arwen, tol-ad enni" And he lay next to her, holding her close. Suddenly, Arwen began to stir, and her eyes opened to see her love lying next to her. Tears of joy sprang from Aragorn's eyes.
"This is a dream....." she whispered. Aragorn just smiled.
"Then it is a good dream." He whispered back, and kissed her.
