Today was the day… The day Joan was going to buy a wedding dress she had been planning it for weeks and she had an idea of the type of dress she wanted to get, one thing was for certain though she would get one that would cover her shoulders she refused to let that scar ruin her day. She was going with her friend Maddie Stanford, they had decided to start the day at ten so that they would have the whole day dedicated to dresses.
Joan was just texting Maddie when Sherlock came in yawning, his hair messy and in his best dressing gown. He walked over to Joan and embraced her kissing her gently
"Morning beautiful" He muttered as he pulled away
"I didn't wake you up did I?" Joan asked looking guilty
"No, I needed to tell you something anyway" Sherlock reassured her.
Joan looked at Sherlock expectantly
"I want you to wear a strapless dress" he continued as if he had asked her to do the laundry
"What? Sherlock! No!" Joan protested trying to break away from Sherlock's embrace but he held her tightly
"Please, for me" he pleaded
"No Sherlock! You know how I feel about that stupid ugly scar!" Joan nearly yelled trying harder to break away
"No it's not! It's beautiful like the rest of you and I want you to see that!" Sherlock suddenly snapped
This made Joan go still, she wasn't expecting him to snap like that
"I'm fine with you seeing it, it's just everyone else" Joan muttered
It took a year for Joan to be able to show Sherlock her scar, it seemed way too much for her to just suddenly show her scar to the world
"Everyone that's there will love you very much and they won't care" Sherlock replied in a much gentler tone
"I'll feel like everyone will be staring at it" Joan muttered again
"No they won't they'll be looking at all of you, because you'll look beautiful" Sherlock said in a whisper as he lent down and kissed her again
Joan broke the kiss this time
"Fine, but this doesn't get you off the hook, I'm still not happy with you" Joan told him breaking free from Sherlock, grabbing her bag and walking out of 221B
"Oh and if you think you're going to back out without me knowing, I've told Maddie not to let you and you know what she's like" Sherlock warned
Maddie is lovely she truly is but she will get stuff done the way it needs to be and she is only doing this because she owes Sherlock
Joan walked out of the flat to find Maddie waiting outside one the pavement for her
"About bloody time!" She called pulling Joan in to a hug as
"Sorry, got caught up" Joan replied smiling to her friend
"In Sherlock's arms no doubt" Maddie grinned with a wink
"Shut up and let's get going" Joan said gently thwacking her friend on the arm
They went from shop to shop trying on loads of dresses, Joan felt more and more uncomfortable. Every time she looked in the mirror all she could stare at was that scar that's how she knew the dress wasn't right because it didn't take her attention way.
They went in one last shop before Joan had to decide, this time something caught her eye and before Maddie could even move to choose something Joan rushed towards the rack and picked out the dress she saw. Maddie said something but she couldn't hear her as she rushed to the changing room. Joan changed as quickly as possible and left the changing room.
She stood on the little podium near the end of the shop in front of a massive mirror and looked at herself it was very simple the top only had a very simple design like ripples in a pond, just below that was a band, it was a flower design and it sparkled beautifully. The skirt was plain and long but flowed like a river; she grinned and twirled like a little girl. She hardly noticed her scar
"It's perfect! I love it" she cried laughing
"You look amazing in it!" Maddie agreed looking at Joan in wonder.
Sherlock was going to love it.
