Summary: Gol D. Roger. Always known as the Pirate King, the person who brought about a new era. Yet he started out just like everyone else. A rookie pirate. 10 one-shots of Roger's life before he became the man they all know.

I found Stelra Etnae's Red Hair and a Strawhat so freaking awesome and on top of loving Shanks to no end, I also adored Roger's portrayal. So I thought: "Hey! Why doesn't Roger get more attention?" And this was born. It's a bit different than usual, but I hope you still like it! J

And because it's fun, every chapter will have a title based off lyrics from one song or another. Might change the main title though.

I'm Walking Towards The Light

The anticipation is killing you. Take a deep breath. Check. Then check again. Oh, what's the point? You're going to forget something, anyway. You're careless like that. But it doesn't matter now. It's either not important at all or way too important and if it's the second one, you're bound to find out soon. All the matters is that today is the day. Today you're getting away.

You're going to walk the path to freedom.

A grin brightens up your features, a grin so wide, it seems to envelop your entire face, eyes narrowing but sparkling with excitement. How long have you been waiting for this? Today is your day.

You grab your back and swing it over your shoulders. You're almost out the door when you remember. You fool, you almost slap yourself for being so forgetful. Half running, half jumping, you reach the other end of the room and take it.

The familiar feel of straw between your fingers boosts your confidence and not wasting a second, you put it on. Now everything's perfect. Now you can take on the world. Ready? Ready. Go. Go for it.

Go for it.

"The freest man in the world. I just need a ship. And a crew." He adjusts the hat on his head and grins mischievously. "Alright! Here I go!"

And so, young Roger races down the hills, towards the sea, his dream, his freedom. Nothing will ever stop him. It's his destiny.
