It used to just be the two of us.

We were created at the same time, but I immediately assumed the role of elder 'sister'. We were the same level, but he always conceded to me. Our finely etched roles, clearly defined. Two sides of the same coin.

Our creator was the same way, a living contradiction. Alternately a genius and an idiot, a rational man and a lunatic, trusting and paranoid, and sometimes all at once.

We never feared him, though, until the end. Until he, in his delusional state, led us into a nightmare.

We all believed him. We thought he was leading us to the Digital World. There was not a doubt in our minds; not the children, not the DigiDestined, and not in mine or my partner's. Even our creator believed he was leading us there.

But something went horribly wrong.

And we were afraid.

Our creator was not who we thought he was, nor who he himself believed. The demon came forth and resumed his true form. Our creator, drained of all energy, collapsed to the ground. We both knew he would not survive.

The demon was not content with destroying one life, though, and took advantage of our hesitation. Those horrible claws dug into my skin, tearing me apart from the inside, as he brought me to meet his hellish gaze.

Silently, I wished with all my heart to be as far from him as possible.

The fates are cruel. I was deleted, yes, but not set free. The demon absorbed me, keeping my consciousness intact.

My partner rushed forward in tears.

No, I thought. Don't do it, save yourself...

But that was impossible.

In a second, I was alone. Mummymon was dead. Not deleted, because when you're deleted, you return to Primary Village for reformatting. He was dead, never to return.

My partner was dead. Our creator lay dying. And only I remained.

I managed to escape the demon at the last minute, and my data flew to the heart of the Digital World. I awoke later, after an unknown time. For some reason, I thought he'd be there, my partner. But no, he was gone and I'd never see him again.

During my stay there, I heard tell of the new Guardian, a brave human who gave his soul to the Digital World to protect it for all eternity. I smiled. Our creator had found his way here at last.

"Arukenimon?" I whirled around, expecting to see my partner. My mind drifted like that sometimes, when I was caught up in memories...but alas, it was only Elecmon. "You're free to go now. You've stayed here so long, and you're back to your old level..."

I nodded. "Thank you."

"Besides, it may do you some good to start making up for what you did before."

I blinked. Had I done something wrong? I had never thought if it like that before. We followed orders, and that was all.

But...whose orders did we follow? Those of our forlorn creator, or of his demonic parasite?

I fell to my knees. Who was my true master?

Oh, Mummymon, where were you when I needed you?

I left almost immediately. There was so much to think about, so much I had never considered before.

I think, now, after so much, I finally understand what it was that BlackWarGreymon sought to uncover. But like my creation, I cannot find it anywhere.
