"Interesting strategy."
Kurt swore and the car swerved dangerously as he tore at the steering wheel. He turned to the passengers seat where Magnus' brother was suddenly, somehow, there. "Wha- how?"
"Though I don't see how alienating your only witness will help."
Wallander stared at him, then back at the road, then at him again. "How did you get here?"
That got him an impatient look. "You mean in this realm?"
"No I mean in this car!"
"Oh." Green eyes widened and he started looking around, raising one hand to place a testing touch on the ceiling. His long fingered touch moved reverently as he brushed the dashboard and he asked. "Is it supposed to be impenetrable?"
"What? No."
"Then why wouldn't I be able to get in?"
Kurt frowned, the man was already driving him more insane than Magnus did, and they had only met that morning. "You weren't there a minute ago."
"No I wasn't." He waved a dismissive hand. "Now back to what's important. My son was telling me-"
"No look just, stop referring to Magnus as your son." Kurt interrupted. "It's weird."
"You are impossible to talk to."
"I'm impossible!?"
"I'm trying to tell you that the witness was lying."
"What?"
"She's a pagan and you offended her by mentioning satanism."
Wallander glared out the front window. He had thrown satanism out there and now that Kurt was thinking about it, the witness had closed up after that. Maybe Magnus' brother did know what he was talking about, except,"you weren't even there."
He turned back to the passenger seat and blinked to find it empty. "What the bloody hell?" He asked and turned the car around because he had a witness to re-interview.
