I Will Be With You
It has been six months since Kenshin died. Those six months had been hard on both her broken
heart and health. She weakly bends down to Kenshin's shrine and lights the two incense sticks in
front of his shrine. As she struggles to sit in front of his shrine, she remembers how he laid on
her lap under the cherry blossom with tears in her eyes. Seeing him with a peaceful smile after
the scar had finally faded away, brought immense pain into her heart. but she also knew that he no longer
had to fight anymore battles nor endure the pain from his terminal illness.
He was her first kiss, as well as her first and last love. As more tears shed, she remembers how both they were nervous on
their wedding night, but after he kissed her that night everything fell into place and felt so lovingly
right. Even though he had to leave for every challenge he had met, she always waited for him with open arms knowing
in her heart he would come home again to her even though it broke her heart seeing him bloody and beaten.
As she looks at his shrine and pours sake into the cup and bows her head in prayer to recite her poem:
My dearest love,
I will be with you
soon. For as my time
draws near, we
will finally sit together
under our heaven's moon.
Many thought I was crazy
to share your pain, but
I could not bear to live
without you. For without you
I would go insane.
Through the wars and
challenges you had endured.
You always came home
waiting for me to love
you and aid you with
what I could cure.
So now my love,
I will be waiting
for your arrival to
take me home with you.
For when you do, I will
love you in the heavens
with a love so pure and true.
Kaoru coughs with tears in her eyes, as she struggles to pull herself up to walk away from
Kenshin's shrine. As she arrives at the gate of their home, she collapses and takes her final
breath waiting for her Kenshin's arrival, so they can join in heaven together as one.
