Scarlet

Oktavia von Seckendorff, the mermaid witch, is sitting on her throne, with the orchestra dancing around her in bittersweet melody. It is in her nature to fall under the spells of love; and for all eternity, she dwells on the memories, rather than the future. Not a soul can touch her anymore, and he cannot hurt her.

This labyrinth is only a projection of her broken heart. Her wish, so pure yet corrupted, was defeated by the sorrows of love. But you can hear Sayaka's voice still, screaming in melancholy, her words struggling to make any sense.

Can you hear me? Can you hear me?

But we all break. That is only human nature. For we all know how it is, to have loved and to have lost, and to have given up all hope when the future became too clouded to make out.

I won't let her be alone. I won't let her be alone.

Don't forget. Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember her, you are not alone.

Kyouko,... Kyouko...

No matter how lost Oktavia has become, her rival will not give up hope. For without each other, they have nothing. No reason to argue, no reason to fight. Just like a puzzle with missing pieces- Kyouko will be lonely without Sayaka.

Save me. Save me.

And the girl adorned in scarlet tries her best but fights in vain. It is hopeless, truly hopeless, to bring a corpse back to life. Sayaka is gone forever, and what was born from her despair was a curse- a curse called Oktavia.

But you are not alone. You will never be alone.

Kyouko understands the error in her logic- something that far gone can never be returned. Nonetheless, she continues pushing forward, because even small miracles are possible.

She sends out every weapon and launches all her spears at Oktavia, but that witch is too strong, too determined, too broken. Nothing is working, or so it seems. But even so, the scarlet female still has one trick left up her sleeve.

I beg you, God... If this is how my life ends... Let me see a happy dream, just once.

She kisses the scarlet gem just once then releases it into the air as her body tumbles to the ground. Oktavia and her orchestra labyrinth vanish in the blink of an eye, taking Kyouko's lifeless body along.

Such a selfless sacrifice; she wouldn't let Sayaka be left alone in the darkness anymore. At least now, they'd be together, in an empty nothingness, where not a soul can ever find them again. But even so, there was just a second- no, a fraction of a second- where the two girls felt each other right before their deaths. It was brief, but even so, they felt each other's presence and Sayaka became whole again.

It's fine, I just wanted to hear him perform one more time. I wanted many people to hear his violin. Just remembering that feeling is enough for me. I don't have any regrets left.

In that moment, they faded away, a mix of scarlet and blue. And what could be heard in the distance but a soft violin, humming that nostalgic tune.

Ave Maria.
