-Chapter One-
He looked into the vast land with the thought that he would see something, some kind of movement, a sign of life. All though the empty feeling in his stomach new different. For days on end Ktari wandered, searching for home. Each day his pace grew slower and his rests became longer. Each month, on the night where the moon became whole, Ktari would belt out one, singular howl in the hope that one day, someone would return his call.
At home, Ktari's mother, Aleu awaited the time where the ice would align so she could go after her son. On the night the ice aligned, Aleu began her journey, looking back at the pack that she had once lead, her body riddled with guilt as she continued with not a second glance. Aleu looked up to the stars I'm sorry Nava… I must go. The grey wolf-dog started her hunt through Alaska to find her son. Aleu's quest went on for many long days, and many long nights. The days filled with the struggle to find food and water and the nights were restless. The she-wolf began to lose hope. As the moon rose the wolf found shelter, watching the darkness fall around her like a blanket. Aleu looked up to the blazing moon for the last time, K-Ktari… her head dropped to the ground and her eyes shut with flickers, like a broken camera.
The wind ruffled Ktari's fur as he sat staring into the white light that was the moon. With a shake in his bones Ktari lifted his head and created the loudest howl of all that he had done. The sound echoed around the empty Alaskan air. He waited a moment, hoping to hear anything other than the wind, but while he waited he knew, there was no one out there…
Aleu's ears pricked up as she heard a howl In the wind. Is that…? It can't be. Aleu slowly rose to her feet, trying to determine if the howl was that of the wind or her beloved son. She started out walking slowly towards the sound, then as it grew louder and louder she quickened her pace. Now at a complete run, Aleu sniffed the air for signs of her son.
"Ktari?" She barked as loud as she could. The grass began to move around her, not recognising the scent, Aleu crouched down into a prowl, ears straight back and became to snarl.
"Mum?" Ktari came bursting out of the bushes, jumping and wagging his tail, the dog part of him showing more than usual. The two circled each other with pure joy. After a moment Ktari stopped,
"what about the pack?" Ktari lowered his ears, worried that his mother hadn't made the right choice.
"They're fine, Nava will look after them." The reunited family smiled at each other, "come on," Aleu gestured to some nearby shelter, "Lets get some rest." She licked her son lovingly then turned to get some much needed sleep.
