This is my first one-shot, second story over-all that I had an idea for while working on my main fic "Testing Feelings". You should totally check it out, I hear it's pretty good. Shameless plugs aside, for those of you following it, I'll update soon. Probably.
I just randomly thought of this BBRae (obviously, what else would it be?) idea and decided to write a short story about it. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I don't own Teen Titans
Just Enjoy It
Beast Boy loved his ears. They worked better than any other humans, as well as many animals. They made him unique, and he viewed them as one of the few things he had inherited from, and thus connected him to, his parents.
Besides, chicks dig the ears.
However, at the moment he hated them. They were obviously lying and causing him to hear what he wanted to more than anything in the world but would never actually happen. Damn evil ears.
He still couldn't stop himself from asking the half-demon empath in front of him if what the pointy-tipped (but extremely attractive) devils told him truly was the case.
"Did you say what I think you did?"
"Well that depends on what you think I said, but I would assume so."
"Whatever I want?"
"Whatever you want."
"Whatever I want?"
"Azar, animalistic hearing yet you're still completely deaf. Yes, Beast Boy. Anything you want me to do."
Beast Boy stared at his girlfriend. They had been together for almost two years and she was still surprising him like this. It was embarrassing, really. But to be fair, how was he supposed to know she'd be comfortable or open to doing this kind of thing with him?
"But what if what I want is really weird or gross?" He asked slowly.
Raven sighed. "Fine. I was hoping that you would be mature enough about this that I wouldn't be required to clarify anything, but I suppose that's too much to ask of you. If you suggest anything that crosses a line that I will draw I will refuse."
"But most things are fair game? What about including things you hate like video games or other people like Cyborg?" Beast Boy asked excitedly. He could blow his best friend's mind with this.
"It's your birthday. This is my present. Anything you want for one day. Besides, I need the practice, I had no parents or gardians to speak of regarding this, so just learned of it," the empath replied expressionlessly. "Don't make me regret the decision."
The changeling finally accepted what he was hearing. This was real. This was happening. Raven is willingly offering herself to him to use however he liked. This was a dream come true!
"Okay, let's start off with Robin."
Raven was uncertain and more than a little apprehensive. She didn't know if giving her boyfriend this power over her was a wise decision. She knew he was one for gestures rather than physical gifts (though that didn't stop her from buying him the mountain of video games currently hidden in her closet), something like this was uncomfortable and new.
Well, it's much too late for that line of thinking now, she thought to herself as the two of them watched Robin working out in the Titan's Tower gym. He was currently going to work on multiple mechanized training robots, blocking, dodging, and lashing out in a graceful and deadly demonstration of his abilities.
I suppose it could be much worse. This is private, and I'm not the target. Although this is the beginning of what will likely be a very long day.
"Ready?" The green teen beside her muttered quietly.
"My shield blocks all sound from him as well as visuals. Whispering isn't necessary," she deadpanned. "But yes, as ready as I will be."
Her partner grinned. "Then go get to work!"
She sighed, and then did as commanded.
The changeling still was ecstatic with the current events. He knew Raven was opening herself up more every day, but he hadn't expected anything of this magnitude for some time. Not that I'm complaining.
Her offer had been a complete shock, but he was definitely going to make the best of it. He could never forgive himself if he squandered this opportunity. To have Raven's powers, the mysterious and mighty magics of the half-demon at his disposal for use in pranks for an entire day was amazing!
Sure, it's specifically her time-stopping power because she also needs to practice it to learn how to better control it and all, but that's still freaking awesome!
The half-demon next to him flickered briefly, as if she was in a video that skipped a second of footage, appearing in a completely different position than she was previously in the blink of an eye.
"Did you do it?" He asked eagerly. A short nod was his only response. "All of them?"
The empath rolled her eyes. "Of course I did. I'm holding them together with magic right now. Any further stupid questions?"
Beast Boy grinned and shook his head. He had gotten used to Raven's short and uncaring exterior. She had told him how she truly felt on the inside after all, and that was enough for him if their relationship was any indication.
His girlfriend spoke, interrupting his internal monologue. "I'm surprised that this is all you could think of. I expected more."
He smiled at her. "I thought you'd probably be a bit anxious about this, so we're starting off easy. But don't you worry, babe, we'll get crazy later today," he ended with a wink.
Raven glared at him. "If it wasn't your birthday there would already be an idiot sized hole in the wall. Do not call me babe."
"Oh c'mon mama, don't be like that," he answered, chuckling. After receiving no response, he glanced at her sideways. "No threats for that one?" When he still heard nothing to answer it, he turned to look at her fully. "Don't tell me you actually like that nickname?!"
The half-demon pulled her hood over her head. "Are we going to stand here talking for another hour or do what we came for?" She said coldly.
Putting the current situation aside, Beast Boy rotates to again view their fearless leader, still hard at work and oblivious to his audience. The changeling leveled a camera with the Boy Wonder and pressed record. "Okay. Release them."
Immediately, the robots Robin was fighting exploded. Well, at least that's how it would have appeared to a normal human. Beast Boy was anything but normal, however, and so was able to see exactly what happened.
The bots simply fell apart. Every joint and gear disconnected simultaneously, which may not sound very extreme, but there was one very important thing to keep in mind.
These robots were currently in the middle of a fight with the leader of a superhero team.
Punches that were being thrown propelled arms and fingers across the room, kicks sent feet careening through the air. Torsos became torpedos hurling towards the ground. Heads where catapulted into the sky at alarming speeds.
And in the middle of it all, was Robin.
The caped teen was in the process of delivering a roundhouse kick to the chest of one of the robots when they had fallen apart, and when his intended target was suddenly in a thousand places at once, his momentum carried him around and landed him flat on his back, but not before a dramatic episode in which he attempted to remain upright, involving a flailing of his arms that produced an alarmingly accurate impression of the bird he was named after.
The cherry on top came in form of a robot head, which conveniently chose to land directly on a certain area of Robin's anatomy that shall remain unnamed, but caused him to utter a squawk which brought the impression home and curl into a ball.
Beast Boy was already on the floor and struggling to breath from laughter before the head assaulted his leader, and the sight brought tears of mirth streaming down his cheeks. How else could he have reacted to seeing his friend in pain?
"Keep watching," Raven intoned from above him. She had hardly reacted at all to the spectacle, but he could barely discern the hint of a smirk on her lips, which was the best part of the entire situation to Beast Boy.
"Why?" He choked out. "Is there something else?"
Raven flickered once again, and glanced down at him. "What do you think I did with the screws?"
The changeling froze, then immediately rose to look back at the Boy Wonder, who had more or less recovered from his ordeal.
The Boy Wonder stood up unsteadily, before reaching down to feel his belt, frowning.
That is when he realized that the countless pouches it was littered with were full to nearly bursting with numerous small objects. Many heavy small objects.
"Shit," was all he had time to utter before the weighted down belt fell, taking his pants along with it and revealing a pair of pink boxers decorated with animated versions of Silky, Starfire's pet mutant slug.
Raven was surprised. Astonished, really. She had played a joke on someone. Her! Raven! Had played a joke, and hadn't despised every second. She simply couldn't understand it. Jokes and pranks had always been the bane of her existence, the things she detested most, alongside her father. Yet here she was participating in them, albeit forced, and she actually didn't mind.
She eased her mind by saying that she had only been exposed to Beast Boy's versions until now, and that's why she hated them in the past.
Whatever the case, she was currently standing alongside her boyfriend in the room of the Tower's resident alien. It had taken over ten minutes for the changeling to recover from the spectacle that was Robin, and another twenty of rewatching the video he had taken, but eventually he had calmed and they had been on their way to their next target.
"This one should be pretty easy, Rae. I think you'll actually like it too, seeing as you hate clothes. And shopping. And clothes shopping."
She shrugged, though inwardly was feeling rather excited too. Then she berated herself for feeling such a way about a prank.
"I suppose it could be worse." Then she added as to not get his hopes up too much, "But it could also be much better."
He grinned at her. "Well then maybe you can come up with the next one."
She rolled her eyes in response, hiding the flutter in her chest that occurred whenever he looked at her like that. "I'm sure if I did it'd be much better than anything you could think of."
"Okay, well in that case you can come up with what we do to Cy," her boyfriend chuckled.
An alien sense of bravery and competitiveness flooded her, causing her to smirk. "I'll be choosing what I do to Cyborg, you mean."
The animorph looked at her in surprise. "You're actually doing it? I was only joking."
"You can do it," she shrugged. "It can't be too hard then."
He laughed. "You just can't stop from taking every opportunity to insult me can you?"
"I most dofeinitely can. Whether I actually do is another issue entirely," she deadpanned. In truth, she didn't actually mean the quips and insults directed his way, but he knew that as well, and they had become just another thing that they loved between one another.
"Wow, Rae. Maybe you should-," he paused, alert. "Star's back. She's outside. Are the items ready?"
Raven glanced at the pile of clothes at her feet in disgust. She had never been one to enjoy them like most girls as it was, but these specifics articles were especially... distasteful.
"Of course they are."
"Target is in range and unawares. Our supplies are on hand and prepared. The operation is a go, I repeat, the operation is a go," Beast Boy intoned, pretending to be speaking into a walkie-talkie. "Sergeant Dark Bird, are you in position?"
The girl next to him stared at him expressionlessly. "Are you pretending to be blind as well, seeing as I'm right next to you?"
He grinned at her sarcasm. "Sergeant Dark Bird, that is no way to speak to your commanding officer."
"I apologize Corporal Moron. Please excuse my actions."
She's going along with it! He rejoiced internally. "Very well. I will overlook it this time."
"Well, Sergeant is actually a higher rank than Corporal, which you just responded to, so I suppose I'm actually your commanding officer," she said with the hint of a smirk. "And my first order is that we stop this idiotic and pointless game and focus on what we came here for."
Shit, I knew that was too good to be true. "Fiiiiine," he pouted. Then he grabbed his camera and began recording. "Anyways, now looks like a good time as any. Go on already!"
Raven glanced at the alien in front of them, completely unawares of their presence, as the half-demon had again hidden them behind a layer of magic. Starfire had just returned from the shopping mall, and was laden with numerous bags, no doubt each filled with clothes. She was just about to open one, most likely to try on her most recent purchases.
Raven flickered once again, and Beast Boy directed his attention back to Starfire. She pulled out multiple bundles of cloth, unrecognizable at the moment, and put them on. Then she strode to her mirror, giggling in excitement.
When she saw her reflection, she stopped and stared in horror.
Her left foot was covered by an oversized neon green cowboy boot, and an orange sandal encased her right foot. One of the straps were ripped and snapped in the middle, dragging along the ground haphazardly.
A black and grey ruffled skirt descended to her ankles, looking anything but graceful due to the obvious age and abuse it suffered. It was tough and nearly solid, and hardly moved at all. Stains of unknown origin covered its surface.
Her top was a leopard print spaghetti strap workout shirt, captioned with the words 'This Cat Don't Quit'. A large portion of it, however was (thankfully) hidden due to a vest worn over it. The vest was brown denim, and covered in tears. It reminded Beast Boy of something even a homeless person would pass up.
To top it all off, a miniature golden fedora rested upon the alien's head, tipped backward slightly to achieve that look which only befitted a true gentleman.
Starfire gazed at her reflection in silence for over a minute, her eyes the only clue that she was still living, darting up and down her attire faster than humanly possible, as well as growing larger every second. By the time she finally opened her mouth, they were akin to dinner plates.
The following scream shattered every window in Titan's Tower.
Beast Boy couldn't remember the last time he'd been in such a good mood. Probably when Raven had asked him out. But this was definitely rivaling that day.
His girlfriend was currently sitting in her favorite armchair in the Tower's common room, staring at nothing at all, a small smile stuck to her lips.
And Beast Boy?
Beast Boy was reclining perpendicular on his girfriend's lap, his legs and head sitting on the armrests of the chair, eyes closed as Raven ran her hand slowly through his hair.
Lazily cracking open one eye, he looked up at her. "You're smiling. If I didn't know better, I'd say you're enjoying this."
She mock-glared at him. "Then it's fortunate for your health that you do know better."
He chuckled. "Oh c'mon, mama. It isn't a bad thing to like jokes. You've been able to feel emotions without blowing things up for years. Just enjoy it."
"You're very confident that I really do like this," she answered.
"Well, duh! Everyone loved jokes, and people who've had it harder than others like 'em even more!" He exclaimed.
Raven glanced down at him quizzically. "Why do you say that?"
The changeling shrugged. "Well, when someone is used to bad things all the time and that's what they're accustomed to, when they encounter something that's good or problem on funny it seems even better because of the difference from what they've experienced in the past. And your past is pretty bad, Rae."
The empath thought for a time. "That's... surprisingly insightful, coming from you, Gar. It does seem logical as well."
"Is course it does!" He responded, grinning. "I said it after all."
Raven's smile returned, but larger this time. "Well I can't argue with reasoning as solid as that. I suppose my only option is to concede defeat. I admit, I don't entirely hate this activity. Starfire's reaction was... entertaining."
"Victory!" Beast Boy cheered, waving his arms in the air above him. The half-demon grabbed them after one came dangerously close to her face.
"Celebrate in a way that doesn't risk harm to my being. Also, do it later. Cyborg is coming in."
This caught the green teen's attention, as the empath had refused to tell him her plan for their metal friend. The subject of their conversation entered the room and approached the kitchen, where he currently had a serving of hamburger meat grilling.
He turned off the flames and retrieved the meat, placing it on bun waiting upon a nearby plate. After adding a plethora of toppings including, but not limited to, chicken, pork, and lamb, he topped it with the second bun and sat down at the counter, staring in worship at the sandwich in front of him.
Beast Boy had been staring at his friend in disgust by his carnivorous behavior, but way brought back to the present by Raven's voice. "Is the camera recording?"
He jumped, and fumbled for the camera resting on the ground next to the armchair. Hitting the record button, he smiled up at his girlfriend. "Ready when you are!"
Immediately, she dissapeared, causing Beast Boy to fall down to the chair. Turning back to Cyborg, he looked around the room to catch a glimpse of the half-demon, or for any changes she caused.
However, everything appeared the same as it was earlier. The robotic hero took a gigantic bite out of his muderous creation and chewed.
Then he paused, looking down at the sandwich.
Appearing confused, he swallowed and took another bite. Apparently finding it acceptable, he continued eating as though everything was normal.
Then Raven appeared before him, leaning on the counter without warning.
Cyborg cried out in surprise and fell backwards in his seat, hitting the ground with a resounding crash. The empath leaned over the countertop to gaze at him lying on the ground beside his overturned chair.
Beast Boy watched silently. Was that her prank? Kinda lame to be honest. It was funny when he fell back but just scaring someone isn't that great.
But then Raven spoke, and what she said froze both boys in the room with her.
"Trying out vegetarianism, Cyborg? I thought you didn't like tofu."
Beast Boy stared at his two teammates, then at the sandwich lying abandoned on the countertop, thinking hard. Eventually, he put the clues together, and stared in awe at Raven, until a screech louder than Starfire's pulled his attention to Cyborg.
The hero was now standing, and staring at the sandwich in front of him he had partially eaten. His mouth hung open and was emitting a scream of pure, absolute, horror. He looked up to Raven, who simply met his gaze expressionlessly and silently, then back to the food. After standing frozen for several more seconds, he bolted out the door and down the hall, yelling the whole way.
Beast Boy couldn't breath due to his laughter, and fell off the chair to roll across the ground, consumed by mirth. Eventually he calmed himself enough to stand and pick himself off the ground h
But the laughter didn't stop.
Turning to the kitchen, the changeling saw the most beautiful sight he had ever set eyes upon. Raven was standing where he had last seen her, supporting herself on the counter with her arms, and laughing so hard that she was having a hard time drawing breath between giggles. Her eyes were screwed shut from her fit, and Beast Boy took that as an opportunity.
He quickly made his way to her and wrapped his arms around her from behind, bringing her into his chest and resting his chin on the back of her head (which he could actually do, as he had finally surpassed her in height during the past year), and laughed right along with her.
After a long episode of unbridled mirth which left them both lying on the ground in each other's arms, they finally calmed enough to speak. "That was the greatest thing I have ever seen," Beast Boy said breathlessly. "You truly are the prank master."
Raven kissed him slowly. "I did tell you that already. But now I need to rest. I haven't laughed like that ever, so I'm going to my room to sleep."
"Oh suuure," the changeling teased. "It's totally not so that you can get through this day faster so I can lose my power over you."
Raven smiled. "Well, I was going to invite you to join me, but if that's how you feel..."
Beast Boy froze. "Well, I guess some rest doesn't sound that bad," he backtracked. "I'll allow it this time."
He hadn't even finished speaking before the half-demon had opened a portal that transported them to her room, lying entwined on her bed. "Besides," she murmured, "I may be open to doing this again voluntarily on another day."
The changeling kissed her again. "I told you you'd like it."
Raven snuggled into his arms and closed her eyes, a content smile gracing her face. Beast Boy rested his head on hers and closed his eyes as well, drifting off to sleep quickly due the comfort of the girl of his arms.
Just before he was enveloped by the comfort of rest, he heard the empath whisper something to him and kiss his forehead, causing him to wrap his arms around her even more firmly.
"I love you, Garfield."
I honestly have no idea if this was okay or not, I was mainly going for a mix of humor/friendship/romance, and also my first attempt at fluff. Let me know if it was any good. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you in the next story! Cya!mj
