A/N: This literally just popped into my head. Really short oneshot about how casually Blaine just said it. And how perfect it ended up being.
Disclaimer: I do not own Glee, because RIB do, and right now I am bowing down to Brad because he wrote this episode and made the last five minutes just perfect.
He had wanted it to be special.
He had wanted to say it at the perfect moment, and had already started coming up with ideas of how it would look. There would be candles on a table, or they would be under the stars, or just lying in each others arms. Music would be playing softly in the background and he would take Kurt's hand in his and gently tell him the one thing that he longed to say – that he had been saying to himself every time he looked into those blue-grey eyes.
It would be a whisper that would resonate loudly, and Kurt's eyes would tear up because he knew how much it would mean to Kurt when he said it. And he would smile at him, and brush away the tears with his thumb, and Kurt would repeat the phrase, and then they would kiss.
That's how he had wanted it to go.
But somehow, as he was watching Kurt talk excitedly about his trip to New York for Nationals, leaning his hand in his hand as he stared into those ocean eyes, he found that all he could think were those three words. And as he listened to Kurt and realized how happy he was just to have reached out and briefly touched his dream, and watching him smile, he found himself opening his mouth to respond.
"I love you."
He hadn't meant to say it then. They were in a coffee shop. Not romantic in the least. But as he watched – somewhat dazedly as he was still finding himself distracted by Kurt's eyes – his boyfriend put down his coffee cup and blink at him. And then he smiled at him and told him that he loved him, too.
And Blaine realized that he hadn't needed to worry about when, where, or how he said it – just that he did, and had. Because Kurt loved him, too, and that was a fact. Nothing to make a fuss over, because it was just a part of who they were.
