Peter began to speak again. "I wanted you to know," he repeated, his voice solemn, "that I will always be there for you; I will always be there to take care of you. I promise you that. I will always be your friend."

It felt like a complete slap in Mary Jane's face. Surely the kiss had meant something to Peter – he was not the type of boy who would lead her on in that way; he would not kiss her and then simply tell her they could always be friends. Would he? Mary Jane decided to further question what he'd said, though she was beginning to lose hope in Peter.

"Only a friend, Peter Parker?" she whispered, her voice beginning to break. She blinked back a few tears.

"That's all I have to give."

Mary Jane shook her head, turning away before letting the tears come. She began to head out of the cemetery to walk home, forgetting to give her final condolences to Harry about his father. There were other things on her mind at the moment, and she couldn't bring herself to talk to anyone else.

Peter turned around and watched Mary Jane go, the only girl that he had ever loved. Now that she also held feelings for him as well, he wouldn't be able to live with this. The words, "great power comes great responsibility" kept echoing through his mind. 'Mary Jane is my responsibility.'

Peter started to briskly walk back to Mary Jane and almost called her name out, but he stopped. 'No, it's too dangerous,' he almost turned around but seeing Mary Jane on the verge of tears his feet started walking again without his brain's consent. Peter's hand reached out and put a hand on Mary Jane's shoulder.

Mary Jane turned around to see Peter next to her. She tried desperately to wipe at the tears that covered her face.

'She looks so beautiful even with a tear streaked face, look at all the pain I've caused her in just those few short minutes.' Peter took her face in his strong hands and leaned down and kissed her again.

When they finally pulled reluctantly away from each other, Mary Jane looked questionately at Peter. "Ignore what I said, ignore everything. I love you too Mary Jane Watson."

Mary Jane smiled happily and wrapped her arms around his neck and pulling his face to hers to share the most passionate kiss they have ever had.
