It was a dark night in the city of Domino and a teen was sleeping in his small apartment with his roommate, Bakura. Bakura could have easily passed for his twin though he was slightly taller, had spikier hair and had a dark demeanor. He kept a watchful eye over the younger of the two before glancing out the window, hearing sirens in the distance. He didn't know what was going on but felt that it was close to their location as he saw a truck stop across the street and shouts coming through the walls. He backed away from the window and moved towards the front of the apartment, the Millennium Ring glowing faintly around his neck. He stopped suddenly as his eyes widened at the sight in front of him. There were flames everywhere, preventing anyone from getting inside or out. He turned to look over his shoulder and shouted. "Ryou! Get up NOW!"
Ryou jumped off the bed before running to join Bakura and stopped seeing the flames before coughing, his pants causing him to inhale the smoke. "What the hell happened?" He continued coughing looking at the flames as they went up the walls and across the floor. It also didn't help the fact that they were three stories from the ground either.
Bakura looked at him then pulled him away from the living room, knowing that the flames would get in to every other room soon enough. He heard something heavy fall back in the living room before quickly moving to the window and pushing it open then kicking the screen out, watching it fall to the cement below. He looked at the firefighters then glanced to Ryou who was shaking and crying as he sat on the bed. He turned back to the workers. "GET US OUT OF HERE!" He shouted, hoping that he would be heard.
Ryou heard Bakura call out to the firefighters before looking to the door and seeing the flames licking just underneath the door, trying to get inside the room. He shook more then fell off the bed as they managed to get inside, followed by a thick cloud of smoke. He found himself crawling under the cloud of smoke to where Bakura stood. He got up and stood next to him, glancing back as the flames crawled up the wall, eventually leading to where he had just been. He watched with fear in his eyes as everything around them was slowly engulfed in flames.
Bakura turned and eyed the flames angrily then glared at the window. He shakily glanced over to a pipe and his eyes widened before looking to Ryou. "Gas leak." He muttered then grabbed the teen and ran to the window making sure Ryou was out and safe. He turned around just as an explosion occurred, blowing out the glass from all the windows. Bakura covered his face with his arms as he felt the flames surround and rush past him out the window.
The firefighters wrapped Ryou in a thick blanket after they caught him. He watched a time seemed to go slow as the flames shot out the window. "BAKURA!" He shouted, fear and other emotions in his voice. He vaguely saw some of the workers run inside the blazing apartment complex and helping make sure others were out. After about twenty minutes, one came out, carrying Bakura in his arms then laying him on the asphalt away from the complex. Ryou watched helplessly as they tried to help him stay alive. Soon after, they made no progress as one of the workers shook his head. Ryou shook his head as an ambulance came and took him away, pronouncing him dead at the scene.
