"Blake."
The cat faunus sat still in the chair, continuing to stare out the window. Rain drizzled outside, filling the voids of silence.
"Blake, it's me," Yang said again, walking forward to meet her friend's eyes. When she didn't get an answer for the second time, she held her partner's hand and forced herself to keep talking.
"They told me you were hurt. They told me that you almost died..." Yang murmured. "I didn't want to believe them. I didn't think they could be true."
Cat ears twitched once. The faunus had heard something but she kept her eyes glued out the window.
"Could you... Could you please look at me?"
It took a long time, but the girl finally did as she was asked. Carefully her neck turned. But once she did, Yang could only let out another gasp.
The once bright amber eyes were now so dull and absent of life.
It was difficult not to let go of her hand because for a second Yang felt that the weight of the entire world had fallen onto her shoulders. She tried though. She tried very hard.
"Don't you remember how we first met?" Yang asked, starting to cry but refusing to give in. "My sister saw you across the room. I made her to talk to you because she didn't have any friends. But the truth is I just really wanted to talk to you."
Wind blew into the room. Her hand felt so cold.
"Don't you remember the Initiation night? That's when we became partners. And you took down that Ursa for me and then you smirked at me like it was no big deal." Yang tried her best to laugh. "That was the day we became team RWBY. I was so proud of my sister that day. And I was so happy because I found this...awesome partner to be with for the rest of my life."
Her ears remained flat on her head.
"Blake, don't you remember? That night at the school dance? You actually took my stupid advice and asked me to dance with you. You won't believe how happy it was for me," Yang whispered. "You looked so beautiful in that dress."
Her mouth felt dry.
"We've been through so much together. We were there by each other's side at Mount Glenn. We were there when Torchwick was trying to breach the city..." There was a shudder for breath. "When everything started to fall apart... You were there holding my hand and telling me that everything was going to be okay. You told me that you were sorry..."
Tears ran down Yang's face. She could not stop them. "I'm sorry Blake. I'm sorry that I couldn't protect you."
Still, it was silent.
"Blake, please."
Say something. Anything.
It took another minute, but the cold stare of her partner finally moved to her eyes.
But it was all futile. At the end of it, the faunus only blinked. Her eyes stayed empty of recognition.
At the end of it, she finally spoke.
"I'm sorry," Blake said, sounding like she was neither here nor anywhere. "I don't know who you are."
And right then Yang knew that the person she loved was no longer there.
