Ammeline doesn't know where she comes from. All of the other servants in the Tisroc's palace know she's different. With her pale skin and sky blue eyes, it's plain that she's a barbarian. She constantly dreams of a woman, with hair that shines like the sun. Her lips form a song, one that she has remembered to this day. But, whenever she sings it, strange things happen. So, what happens when she meets a certain Just King, who just might know who her parents are? Will her life ever be the same again?
Sariah Tarkheena is the daughter of the Tisroc's captain of the guard. But, she isn't a normal Calormene woman. She wears her father's tunics in exchange for the rich silk dresses, spends her time in the palace stables when she should be in the kitchen, and wishes to be a warrior, like her father, instead of the rich wife of a lord. As a result, she has been branded a social outcast. Women tell their daughters to stay away from her, and the palace men fear her for her brute strength. Thus, she cannot have what her heart yearns for more than anything: love. Will she ever find the right balance between her dream and what Calormen wants for her? Or will these Narnians open up a new world for her, helping her find true love on the way.
Aaliyah only wants to escape. Being the daughter of the Tisroc isn't all as it seems to be. Countless days she spends locked away on the palace grounds, her only friends her barbarian maidservant and the outcast stable girl. Her paintbrush and graphite stick tell stories of a faraway land, full of mythical creatures and a beautiful lion. Her books of the lands in the west entice her of Narnia even further. But. One problem: Narnia and Calormen have been sworn enemies for centuries. Their last clash resulted in a total of 2700 casualties on both sides. There was no way the two countries would ever reconcile. Not even if the four barbarian kings and queens decided to take a peaceful visit. And definitely not if she…fell in love with the High King?
