Notes: written for a meme wherein I had only the length of a song to write a drabble inspired by the song.

Music: Liam Weldon - "The Blue Tar Road"

Kushina wiped her forehead. She was used to humidity. You couldn't live in a village named after a water feature without expecting the resulting water-induced weather to go with it. The buildings were all black, charred with the flames that had ravaged her homeland. The knot in her throat was threatening to break into a sob so she bent over once more, moving what had once been the roof to a shop out of her way, searching almost (mostly) futilly for survivors.

But it was clear that there were none. Complete destruction. No where to return to. A crow cawed in the sky as the sun beat down upon her. She swore as she tripped over a piece of wood, what had once proudly proclaimed in careful carving that the shop had had the best ramen in all of the hidden villages.

The crunching of footsteps along the cleared path caught her attention and she turned to the young man who was going to be the Hokage. "Never again," she whispered. "Please stop theis from ever happening again, no matter what."

"I promise."
