My name is Tsuchiya Ruka.

I held the foil before me, perpendicular to the floor. My mask obstructed my face from the world. I was just one man, in one building, in one school, in one country, in one world.

I fence.

I darted forward to emphasize my thought, wielding my foil as though I could kill and maim all that haunted me with the thin piece of physical metal.

I am a man like most men.

My breath came short and fast as I put everything into nothing. Everything into thrusting at phantoms. The squeak of my shoes on the floor sounded against the familiar memory of the clash of foil against foil.

I desire to possess something that I can't have. Someone that I will never have.

The world became a blur as I narrowed my focus on a single point. I abandoned all sense of defense as I made my way towards my goal...as though I had the chance of reaching that goal.

She is so beautiful, and in so many ways. If only she would let me, I would do anything for her.

I forced myself onward, fast and furious. The only things that existed for me were my harsh breathing, my shoes over the floor, my foil, and my opponent.

That she could feel the exact same feeling...for someone else...

I lunged forward violently. My foil struck the wall with a clang, the top half snapping off in a shower of sparks. I didn't even flinch as the metal whizzed by my ear. I straightened, my breath coming deep and heavy.

It's hard to win...when your opponent is yourself.
