Totoro and willow tree
It was a beautiful summer day. The birds were singing, the wind was blowing and the sun was shining. Satsuki and mei had been visiting totoro every day that first month of summer in his magical tree. Little did mei or satsuki know that totoro knew something they didn't. "he,he. Come on Mei!" satsuki and mei ran around outside chasing each other and laughing. Yasuko opened the slider door. "girls make sure to be back before lunch!" "Ok we will" saksuki called back as they ran over to the hole where the forest spirits reside. They were giggling and shoving each other to be the first ones to greet totoro. They just reached the tree when they saw totoro standing right in front of them. Mei gave totoro the biggest smile she possibly could and yelled "Hi totoro!" But Mei didn't get the usual jolly response from totoro that she normaly did. Instead their smiles faded as the girls began to see the look in totoros eyes, the look of pain, sorrow, and misery. Totoro turned around and just stared at the large tree that stood there. Mei and satsuki looked past totoro and saw it. The enormous tree of the forest spirits was no longer the same But in the place of their luscious evergreen was a dying and rotting old willow tree. The first day of every month this happens, Totoro's gorgeous beloved tree transforms into a miserable willow tree. But that's not all, with the willow tree comes an unimaginable hurting inside Totoro, a kind of pain that is there to remind totoro that they are not immune from the outside worlds hurting, that even they cant always be happy. One look at totoro's eyes, one look at that tree and mei understood, She understood everything. From that day forward neither mei nor satsuki came to see totoro on the first day of the month. That is story of the willow tree.
